Khabarovsk is not a very old city. But it boasts an interesting story. And the coat of arms of Khabarovsk is distinguished by its attractiveness, sophistication, and beauty. True, even in the city itself, not every resident will be able to remember how he looks and what he symbolizes, not to mention other settlements in our country. This knowledge gap is worth bridging.
Coat of arms description
To begin with, we will give a description of the coat of arms of Khabarovsk - for children and adults to learn about its appearance will be very useful and interesting.
In its center, as in most emblems of Russian cities, is a five-pointed shield of yellow color. It is separated by a blue fork-shaped cross directed from top to bottom. At the bottom is a red fish. The shield is crowned with a five-pronged golden-crowned tower crown. Two sharpened swords with golden handles are crossed behind the crown.
The shield is held by two animals standing on their hind legs. On the left is a black bear with white breasts and a protruding red tongue. And to the right is a yellow tiger, also sticking out its red tongue.
This whole composition is on exquisitely folded ribbons of yellow, blue and red colors, decorating a bright pink flower with five petals.
Needless to say - few cities can boast of such a complex and beautiful coat of arms.
Decoding symbols and colors
When the reader has an idea of ββwhat the main symbol of the city looks like, it is worth telling what the emblem of Khabarovsk means. After all, each symbol and color here was not chosen by chance at all - experts worked on them painstakingly.
The five-pointed (aka French) shield itself is an extremely common element - it is found in almost all the arms of Russian cities. Gold color stands for wealth. Indeed, having come to these lands, the first settlers were amazed at wealth - timber, wild animals (both fished for food and for valuable fur), minerals, rivers boiling with fish - all this was abundant.
The forked blue cross symbolizes the merger of Ussuri with the mighty Cupid. Sturgeon fish also appeared here not at all by chance. She points to one of the main activities of local residents - fishing.
The white-breasted bear and the Amur tiger are endemic to these territories and are not found anywhere else in the world. It is expected that they hit the coat of arms. If you look closely, you can see that the animals have not only red tongues, but also eyes of the same color. From the point of view of heraldry, this indicates that they act as defenders of the city.
The tower crown shows that the city is a border town. Indeed, looking at the map, you can see that it is located very close to the border with China. So, if necessary, it should be used as a fortress and a strong point for the military. This is emphasized by two crossed swords.
Finally, the ribbon located at the bottom symbolizes the Order of the October Revolution - a century ago there were fierce battles for the right to establish power.
As you can see, the coat of arms of Khabarovsk, whose photo is attached to the article, is not only beautiful, but also deeply symbolic.
When was approved
In general, it cannot be said that Khabarovsk received its emblem for a long time. Quite the contrary - in the form familiar to us it was adopted very recently - in 2014, and it was approved and entered into the state register only on March 21, 2017.
Its author was a teacher, artist and designer Loginov Sergey Nikolaevich - a resident of Khabarovsk and his honorary citizen.
A few words about the flag of Khabarovsk
As it usually happens, the flag of the city strongly resembles its coat of arms. As a background, a canvas is used, divided into three parts vertically. The left part, which occupies 40% of the area, is red, then a narrower strip, only 1/5 of the area, is white and, finally, the rest is filled with blue.
A well-known exposition is located in the center of the flag - a bear and a tiger hold a shield with a fork-shaped cross and fish. The ribbon and tower crown are not here.
This symbol was adopted much earlier than the emblem - it was officially entered into the register on October 30, 2007.
Previous emblems
Despite the fact that Khabarovsk is a relatively young settlement - it became a city less than a century and a half ago - during this time several variants of the coat of arms managed to change.
The very first was adopted on February 1, 1912. It only remotely resembled modern.
The main part of the exhibition was also a yellow French shield. On top of it was crowned with a golden crown - a tower, but with three teeth, and not with five. The fork-shaped cross had a slightly different shape - the angle between the Ussuri tributary and the Amur was much larger. Instead of the usual sturgeon, chum salmon was also located here, also considered a symbol of the wealth of these places.
The upper left corner was occupied by the arms of the Primorsky region - the city belonged to it at that time. On the left, on the right and from below, the shield was entwined with golden ears of wheat intertwined with a red Alexander ribbon.
The emblem underwent significant changes in 1991. It was then that a bear and a tiger appeared on it, replacing the golden ears of wheat. The background color was also changed - the shield was divided into three vertical stripes of red, white, and blue of equal width. The numbers also appeared in the center of 1858 - the year the small village was founded, which later became a powerful city.
Only after almost a quarter century, changes were made to the coat of arms - mainly cosmetic ones, after which it acquired the appearance that most Russians are familiar with.
