Rather gloomy pictures of the collapse of civilization, when humanity is in the balance of death due to some kind of global catastrophe, post-apocalyptic films that have recently become fashionable are painted.
Viruses are to blame
According to the creators of such tapes, for example, epidemics that turn people into monsters can lead to chaos and the destruction of all life principles. It is precisely about such disasters that are discussed in the 3rd and 4th parts of the sensational franchise, in which Mila Jovovich shines, “Resident Evil”. A handful of survivors are desperately fighting the zombies in Oscar-winning Englishman Danny Boyle's “28 Days Later”. It is interesting that several alternative finals of the picture were shot at once, differently deciding the fate of the hero, which was performed by Killian Murphy. The sequel to the film “28 Weeks Later” loses a little to the prequel - perhaps due to a change in the director. The same idea (about a malicious virus, only replaced by an unsuccessful vaccine for cancer) was carried out by the authors in the thriller “I am a legend”. The character of Will Smith and his faithful dog, it seems, are the only inhabitants of a huge piece of the planet who, however, do not lose hope.
Very often they are hopelessly sad, these post-apocalyptic films. The list can be continued with the Book of Eli with Denzel Washington and the brilliant Harry Oldman, who perfectly plays the role of a bastard. Or the “Road” tape, where father and son are looking for ways of salvation (played by Viggo Mortensen and the young Cody Smith-McPhee who continues to amaze with his works).
Cult things
Post-apocalyptic films can be far from masterpieces, such as “Eon Flux” or “Child of Man”, but can carry a powerful emotional message. Such is the anti-utopia "Equilibrium", which shows the viewer the future "prosperous" society. Its members are devoid of emotions, and therefore they have nothing to worry about. The Wachowski directors in the revolutionary Matrix went even further, making the characters in their world believe in a simulation of life. Intelligent mechanisms thus replaced reality, sucking energy from people who are in the likeness of a dream that they take for real life. This order of existence can be destroyed only by a chosen one, on whom the rebels who escaped from the bonds of deception trust in them. The iconic role of Keanu Reeves, wonderful images created by Laurence Fishburne and Kerry-Anne Moss. These post-apocalyptic films make you think, they wake up both the mind and imagination.
It's not so sad
A somewhat absurd idea about the possibility of seizing power by highly organized mammals is held by
Tim Burton in his Planet of the Apes, which can also be classified as "post-apocalyptic films." Quite a lot of fun watching the world captured by carnivorous zombies, the authors of the picture "Welcome to Zombieland." In this "black" comedy, the heroes of the experienced and very talented artist Woody Harrelson and the beginner, but already proved himself from the very best side of
Jesse Eisenberg, “ignite” the fame
. Charming insidious sisters performed by
Emma Stone and rapidly progressing from role to role of Abigail Breslin. Although it is impossible to cover the entire category of “post-apocalyptic films” with one article, the list of the best of them would be incomplete without mentioning the recent Hunger Games and Oblivion.
