To begin with, the movie "Military Diver" actually has a completely different name. And this is clearly visible even to those who know English only superficially.
“Men of Honor” (this is the name of the film) is translated as “People of Honor”. What was the purpose of the translators, having so simplified the already simple English, giving the film, in fact, a new name and changing the semantic meaning initially? Do they really think that our people are so far from the concepts of conscience, sincerity, honor, humanity that they will not be able to realize the whole "complexity" of the expression "people of honor", and therefore have simplified the name to "Military diver"? Let this question remain on the conscience of translators, who, incidentally, translated the film itself with distortions, albeit with small ones. However, they still did not succeed in spoiling the viewing pleasure. The brilliant game of perfectly selected cast makes you really immerse yourself in the events and experience the feelings of the heroes.

The ambitious Karl refuses to plow the land all his life, like his father and, leaving home, decides to enlist in the fleet.
His dream is a military career. But does a black man dare to dream of such heights? His job is to carry loads, scrub the deck and cook in the galley. But Karl Brashere refuses to obey this state of affairs, he declares his desire to become a professional diver, which has already caused the grin of those around him: “Black diver?”
Two years of hard work, more than a hundred unanswered letters to enroll submariners in the school, humiliation and ridicule did not make Breshire abandon his dream. Having finally achieved his goal, he faces the same problems at school - ridicule and mockery. But Bill doesn't think of giving up. After a while, his perseverance, courage and hard work make white classmates respect Breshire.
The mentor of the recruiting fighters is the old warrior and desperate truth-thief Bill Sunday, played by Robert De Niro, who became interested in the young black talent. Particularly close attention fell on Brashire another heavy load. But hard work and perseverance allowed us to get to the exams, which were, in fact, to decide the future life of Karl. However, an unpleasant “surprise” awaited here too ...
Military Diver (People of Honor) is far from the worst representative of the military drama genre . This is the story of an outcast, defeating prejudice, realizing his dream in spite of all the spokes in the wheels. The story is inspiring and true. A perfect example of the triumphal victory of the will and fortitude of a person aspiring to a dream.
Probably, one could talk about some scenario flaws and one-dimensional character, but not where De Niro and Gooding Jr. play. We must pay tribute - underwater surveys that keep the viewer in suspense turned out to be very interesting.
