In 2007, the world hire blew up the thrash horror Planet of Fear (actors: R. McGowan, F. Rodriguez, M. Shelton, D. Brolin, B. Willis) - a fun and wild part of the Grindhouse project.
Reverence from Rodriguez
The director and screenwriter in one person, Robert Rodriguez, has been hatching the idea of the picture since the 90s, when he shot the funny youth horror film “The Faculty” with Robert Patrick and Elijah Wood. Therefore, this project is a typical copyright hooliganism and a real banter. The film crew of the film “Planet of Fear” (actors, decorators, artists, etc.) gave a more pompous definition, calling the picture a witty parody of existing zombie horror with a reverence for classics like “Night of the Living Dead”.
Hilarious parody
Robert Rodriguez masterfully brought the atmosphere of the crazy, blood-naturalistic spectacle on the screen to an ideal, exemplary lawlessness. It is precisely such a task of the director that the actors realized in the horror Planet of Fear horror. The plot to describe briefly is not possible. The whole action looks like a hilarious parody of everything and immediately horror stories about the adventures of the living dead, under the influence of a biochemical virus (weapon) turned into aggressive monsters devouring everything in its path. At the same time, Rodriguez manages to scoff at the pathos movie myth, which tells the story of the "American hero." According to the plot, in the “Planet of Fear” the saviors of mankind are not at all those who seem to be supposed to be according to their status. There is also no “noble robber” (“rebel”) in the picture, who at some point is obliged to prove to the whole world what is really worth.
Thrash fully armed
It is not surprising that this funny and stylish film comic was produced by Rodriguez with the direct participation of Frank Miller and Quentin Tarantino (how could it be without him ?!). Maybe that’s why it resembles Grindhouse in its intricate structure. Yes, and some important thoughts and moral message, albeit disguised as a careless banter, still penetrate the plot of the picture. The entire plot narrative, driven by the idea of the creators backwards, seems like an anti-utopia overturned. In general, “Planet of Fear” (the actors and roles of which were chosen not so much by Rodriguez as Tarantino) is a fairly humorous film, saturated with stereotyped, but charismatic images, performed by familiar faces (B. Willis pleases with his appearance in the film).
In the arena - the main characters
The actors of the film “Planet of Fear” agreed to participate in the filming with some concern, which, in principle, is understandable and understandable. Each character was so “convex” and contradictory that to predict a successful outcome and rave reviews was unrealistic. Josh Brolin is an evil doctor with a thermometer in his teeth, squeezing out ulcers, Merley Shelton is a nurse, lulling a child who shot a bullet in his forehead. Her lover, a lesbian friend, is Fergie. The boy who shot himself in the head was played by the son of the director Ribel Rodriguez. Freddy Rodriguez is a macho man who has little weapons and never misses. Bruce Willis is a warrior who confesses to the No. 1 terrorist murder and is covered in vile bubbles. In such a company, zombies do not seem like psychopaths. Naturally, each performer was worried about his future fate and career. As it turned out, in vain, because after the release of the film “Planet of Fear”, the actors and the audience received enthusiastic reviews and critical reviews.

Highlights
Robert Rodriguez was ruthless to his characters, and he was not embarrassed by the status of a star who played the role of a hero. For example, almost at the very beginning of the picture, the heroine of the well-known Stacy Ferguson (Fergie from Black Eyed Peas) greedily and savoryly eat zombies. A demonstration of what remains of it is a fine example of the creator's black humor. In an episodic role, Quentin Tarantino himself appears, but the mutations of his hero cause attacks of homeric laughter among the watchers. Separately, it is worth highlighting the character of Bruce Willis, a stern army lieutenant who seriously tells a fascinating story about how he personally tore out the heart of Osama Bin Laden. The brutal appearance of the lieutenant is simply hilarious. Michael Parks also becomes the object of the director’s banter , because his character - the deputy sheriff - is duplicated at once from three paintings: “Death Proof”, “Kill Bill” and “From Dusk Till Dawn-2”. What can we talk about if Robert Rodriguez did not even regret his own son? Truly an enthusiastic artist!

Crying Shotgun Stripper
In the movie “Planet of Fear”, the actors are good at picking, but the most striking character is the crying stripper performed by Rose McGowan. In the course of the development of the plot, her heroine will lose her leg, and instead of the lost limb, the girl will receive a shotgun. The main romantic line with the same macho (Freddy Rodriguez) fell to her lot. On their love scene, the director supposedly even melts the film from passions.
Rodriguez went too far
The only thing the director went too far with is a frequent demonstration of close-ups of all kinds of abominations. It is clear that Rodriguez tried to outdo the original horror films about zombies and in terms of special effects, but you need to know the measure. It is not worth it to recommend especially sensitive natures to watch the picture “Planet of Fear” (actors have repeatedly pointed out this fact), for the same reason it is better not to eat anything while watching.
