Memory impairment

Memory impairment can be triggered by various causes of inorganic and organic origin. The condition involves various degrees of violation - starting with a not very good ability to remember information and ending with amnesia.

To one degree or another, memory impairment is characteristic of elderly people, as well as those suffering from certain disorders in the functioning of the brain.

The condition can occur against the background of excessive alcohol consumption. Very often in medical practice such cases take place. Moreover, memory impairment concerns only current events, and a person remembers all actions and received information in the past perfectly. It should be noted that in this state his behavior does not change, and minor changes are noted in the higher functions of the brain. This pathology is called Korsakov's syndrome. A memory impairment of this kind is also characteristic of those who suffer from injuries or circulatory disorders in the brain, neoplasms, and malnutrition.

The development of Korsakov's syndrome entails an inability to memorize new information. At the same time, the information and knowledge obtained earlier is retained, and their total volume does not decrease.

People who are older and older and do not have health problems are prone to other types of memory impairment. Moreover, the state is associated with the storage and retrieval of new data. Changes in age or senility are observed in people between the ages of forty and sixty-five. It should be noted that such violations do not develop further and do not have a significant negative impact on the quality of life. Elderly people who do not have any diseases are able to remember all past and current actions. With age, the state of the auditory-speech ability to save information worsens, while the visual and motor are usually not affected. The causes of memory impairment in such cases are associated with a disorder of concentration and attention resulting from a decrease in the reaction rate to stimuli from the outside.

Quite often, a violation of the ability to store information is related to cerebral pathologies. In many cases, organic disturbances lead to poor memory. In some cases, a negative effect of drugs on the state of the ability to preserve information is noted. As practice shows, older people are more susceptible to such medicines. After taking the drugs, there is a violation in the concentration of attention and brain activity. A memory disorder can be triggered by the use of psychotropic drugs in people who are depressed.

In medical practice, cases of transient conditions are noted. This phenomenon is called memory lapses. At the same time, a person loses all the information for a certain time, but after a certain period it returns to it again.

Memory impairment. Treatment

Therapeutic measures aimed at eliminating the disorder are selected depending on the cause of its occurrence.

The main condition for getting rid of memory impairment is proper nutrition. The normal functioning of brain cells is provided by microelements (zinc, iron, magnesium), vitamins A, E and B.

Fatty acids contribute to the improvement of memory. They are present in nuts, fish, seeds. In addition, carbohydrates, especially complex ones, are of great importance. They are found in potatoes, nuts, cereals, meat, and legumes.

As you know, a lack of iron can lead to disruption of the functioning of momentum-transmitting molecules, as a result of which the state of memory worsens. To compensate for this shortage, it is recommended to eat apples. They also contain antioxidants that increase acetylcholine.
