In regulatory documents, the elevator is indicated as a high-risk vehicle. He undergoes technical inspections, has his passport, service life. For safe movement during operation, it is necessary to observe the rules for using the elevator, which will be discussed in this article.
General rules
Rules for using an elevator with automatic doors imply strict compliance with certain requirements. First of all, to move between floors, you need to know how to call the elevator. It would seem that everything is simple - there is only one call button. However, you should know that after clicking on it, the indicator light should light up. If this does not happen, then you need to repeat the call.
After the elevator has arrived and its doors have opened, you should make sure that the cab is also delivered. In extremely rare cases, automatic doors open before the arrival of the elevator itself, the passenger runs the risk of being in the elevator shaft.
After entering the cab, press the button for the desired floor, after which the doors will close on their own and the elevator will go. If the means of transportation has not set in motion, you must press the button with the designation of the floor on which the passenger is currently located, or “Stop”. In this case, the doors will open.
Button Designation
In addition to the elevator call button and floor indicators, there is another mandatory button in the cabin - “Call” or “Call”, which allows you to establish communication with technical personnel. When holding it, the dispatcher is responsible, who needs to provide detailed information about the emergency: the elevator is stuck, the system malfunctions, an emergency, and so on.
The following buttons are not present in all elevators:
- the “Doors” button (◄►) allows you to open the doors and keep them open;
- “Stop” button is used for emergency braking of the elevator;
- the “Cancel” button makes the cab stop and open the doors on the next floor.
The rules for using the elevator, which are usually located on the stand in the cab, imply the operational status of the systems. It also indicates the contact numbers that should be contacted in case of a malfunction, including when the buttons are broken.
Transportation of children
In the rules drawn up by the manufacturer, there is the following clause: first an adult must enter the elevator, then a child. This is due to the fact that many elevators are equipped with a weighing device (HLD), the action of which is activated only at a load above fifteen kilograms. At the same time, the time until the door closes automatically increases. If a small child comes in first, then his weight may not be enough to trigger the system, and the cabin will close before an adult has time to enter. Such a situation can scare the baby and even become a cause of fear of confined space in the future.

For the safety and tranquility of the child, parents must comply with the rules for using the elevator. There are restrictions for preschool children: they cannot use the elevator without an adult. The reason for this is the same HLG, which may not recognize the presence of a little man in the cockpit. At the same time, the doors will close faster than usual, and the light will go out in the elevator room, as if there was nobody in it.
Moving with a stroller
Young parents must also comply with the rules for using the elevator. With the stroller in which the baby is located, you must move as follows:
- get the child out of the stroller;
- transport children's vehicles into the cabin;
- go into the elevator.
At the exit, the stroller is first taken out, then an adult comes out with the child in her arms. Such a measure is a mandatory safety rule when using the elevator, because in case of an unforeseen situation the parent will not have time to pull the baby out of the stroller.
Service lift
In order to ensure trouble - free operation of the lifting mechanism , the rules for using the freight elevator should be observed:
- the mass of the transported cargo must not exceed the specified rate;
- all items should be evenly distributed over the entire surface of the cab;
- some freight elevators prohibit the transport of people;
- cargo can only be dispatched with the doors fully closed.
In addition, the use of a freight elevator is possible only in the presence of a responsible person with relevant professional skills.
What is forbidden to do in the elevator?
The rules for using elevators in residential buildings do not allow the actions indicated below in the list:
- Stop closing flaps manually. If the doors close before the passengers have time to enter, you should put your foot in front of the sash - this will be the best obstacle. Stopping the mechanism with your hands is very problematic.
- Pull fingers between closed wings. Such an action may cause the elevator to malfunction. He can stop between floors, for example.
- Overload the cab. The permissible load is indicated on the ad in the elevator. If you exceed it, you can provoke a breakdown of the system and get stuck in the cab. It is not only about people; it is unacceptable to transport furniture and heavy equipment in an ordinary elevator.
- Actively move. Jumping and demonstrating acrobatic abilities can cause the cabin to stand between floors.
- Transport flammable materials. An elevator is a cramped space that limits passenger freedom. Potentially hazardous materials can leak if handled with care. The air in the cab will immediately be filled with toxic substance.
- To smoke. Not every elevator is equipped with a ventilation system, so smoking in a cramped space will cause discomfort to many subsequent passengers.
Rules for using the elevator also prohibit movement in a faulty cab. If the approaching vehicle behaves unusually and suspiciously, it is necessary to warn the dispatcher about this and use the stairs.
Etiquette in the elevator
It’s not always possible to get to the desired floor alone. In a small booth, their unspoken rules for using the elevator must be respected, which help to avoid conflicts and spoiled moods:
- the cabin should be entered in order, starting with those who are closer to the doors;
- the button of the necessary floor for himself and other passengers is pressed by the one who is closer to the control panel;
- to let go of a person, you should leave the cabin, and not cling to the wall;
- when touching or colliding, it’s worth apologizing;
- it is not customary to conduct a dialogue with acquaintances in the presence of strangers.
You should not openly consider other passengers, as this can provoke a conflict or simply confuse the person who has become the object of increased attention. Etiquette rules must be observed not only in the elevator, but in such a cramped space, respect for the companions is simply necessary.
