Clubber Lang: Character Story

Clubber Lang is the main villain of the third movie in the Rocky franchise. He was an opponent of the main character of the Rocky Balboa series in two battles for the world heavyweight title. Served as one of the causes of heart attack coach Rocky Mickey, who became fatal. One of the most striking characters in the series, played by actor and former wrestler Mr. T.

James Clubber Lang at the beginning of the film is shown as one of the brightest fighters in boxing, who wins by knockout of one opponent after another. After defeating Apollo Creed, Rocky Balboa successfully defended his world title ten times and is preparing to retire.

Lang is trying to provoke Rocky into battle by publicly hitting his wife. Balboa is not so young anymore (weak opponents have been specially selected for him in recent years), but still agrees. Lang pushes coach Balboa Mickey, provoking a heart attack in the latter. Rocky, who also worries about the state of the coach and longtime ally, loses by knockout in the second round.

Before the fight

After the death of Mickey Balboa begins to train with Creed and learn a new, faster and more mobile style. He calls Lang for revenge, and he agrees. Clubber, who is used to winning by knockout in the early rounds, is trying to immediately end the fight, but Rocky gets up after several knockdowns and dodges the enemy’s attacks. Lang spends all his energy trying to end the confrontation by knockout, as a result, Rocky gets the opportunity to defeat his opponent.

Extended biography

Clubber Lang, in addition to the third picture of the Rocky series, appeared in several video games and book variations. These works tell of James's childhood in Chicago. He orphaned early and grew up on the streets, where he was forced to engage in crime and went to prison for five years for charges of theft and assault. It was there that he took up boxing and began to participate in competitions among prisoners. Thanks to this, he got on the radars of professional promoters and began his professional career in boxing after his release.

About 1,200 actors were auditioned for the character. As a result, Stallone chose the actor and former wrestler Mr. T as the performer of the role of Clubber Lang.

Mr. T

After serving in the army and taking part in minor wrestling competitions, Mr. T was spotted in 1980 at the U.S. main bouncer competition. He became a member of the cast of the successful series Team A as Sergeant Baracus. Thanks to his signature hairstyle - African Iroquois, and a recognizable style, characterized by a large number of jewelry, he quickly became one of the most recognizable people in America.
