"Victor Frankenstein" is a mystical horror film directed by Paul McGuigan based on the novel by Mary Shelley, who became a classic of Gothic literature 200 years ago. The actors of the film "Victor Frankenstein" (2015) are world famous celebrities, the main roles went to James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe. The director was Paul McGuigan, known to the viewer thanks to the fantastic thriller "The Fifth Dimension" and the action movie "The Lucky Number of Slevin."

Filmmakers

Work on the project was announced at the end of 2011. American screenwriter and director Max Landis was hired to write the screenplay. In September 2012, the director's chair was taken by Paul McGuigan, on whose account there were already several successful films ("The Lucky Number of Slevin," "Day of Reckoning," "Sherlock").

McGuigan picked up a first-class cast for his new project - in the film Victor Frankenstein (2015), actors James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe played the roles of Victor Frankenstein and his assistant Igor, respectively. James McEvoy became famous for his role as Professor Xavier in the X-Men franchise, and Radcliffe knows the whole world for his role as Harry Potter. The role of Arthur Kipps in the mystical thriller "Woman in Black" added popularity to the young actor.

The character of James McEvoy is a brilliant young scientist who lives and breathes his own experiments. He behaves as a calm, calculating, completely devoid of moral principles man. In fact, under this mask lurks an inexhaustible long-standing guilt.

The main female role, the role of the acrobat Lorelei, went to the British actress Jessica Brown Findlay. The actress before that worked a lot on television and played major roles in such series as "Downtown Abbey" and "Black Mirror".

The actors and roles of the film Victor Frankenstein (2015) were approved back in September 2013.

The image of Inspector Roderick was embodied on the screen by the Irishman Andrew Scott, who gained fame thanks to the role of Moriarty in the detective series Sherlock. Roderick Terpin appears on the screen as an intelligent and experienced, but too religious policeman, who considers evil Frankenstein’s bold experiments.

A small but memorable role of the creature created by Victor Frankenstein went to a little-known British actor Spencer Wilding.

In the movie Victor Frankenstein (2015), actors Charles Dance, Freddy Fox and Bronson Webb performed supporting roles.

Plot

The protagonist of the picture is an unnamed circus clown who devotes all his free time to reading medical books. During one of the performances, an accident occurs, and thanks to his unique knowledge in the field of anatomy and medicine, a clown rescues a gymnast from death. Together with his new assistant, Victor hopes to make a revolution in science, once and for all defeating death.

Box office

Despite the good cast and solid advertising, the film “Victor Frankenstein” (2015) was expecting a box office failure. With a relatively small budget ($ 40 million), the tape collected only 34 million at the box office, not meeting the expectations of the producers. For comparison, the Maryn Shelley Frankenstein film , shot by Kenneth Branagh back in 1994, became a box office hit, collecting more than $ 110 million at the box office. Kenneth Branagh’s film was much more like Mary Shelley’s novel than McGuigan’s film, so fans of the classic novel liked it much more.
