How to draw a harp: 4 options

A harp is a musical instrument consisting of two frames placed at an angle and many strings strung between them. This tool can be of different types and forms, and therefore there are many ways to draw it, from the simplest to the more complex.

How to draw a harp

To create a picture you need only a regular pencil and paper. First, consider a simple option. how to draw a harp.

First of all, draw a figure resembling a horseshoe, then draw another line of the same shape, adding thickness to this part. Next, draw a horizontal line connecting the upper ends of the figure. We make this figure more voluminous by drawing another strip below.

Below on the harp itself we draw an element resembling a narrow rectangle with rounded corners. We draw vertical lines connecting this rectangle and the horizontal upper strip.

The harp frame can be decorated by drawing on it several curved lines or figures in the shape of leaves. If desired, the picture can be painted using yellow, brown or orange.

Little harp

Since harps can have different shapes, consider another simple way to draw a harp in stages:

  1. First, draw the outline of the harp in the form of a curved line with a curl on top.
  2. Add a few extra lines to add volume to the shape.
  3. With two parallel lines we draw a harp column.
  4. Draw the strings with vertical lines, wipe off the excess and color the drawing.

An easy way to portray a reverse harp

Another simple way to draw a harp is to first draw a piece of mittens in pencil. Under this figure draw a harp stand in the form of a small trapezoid.

Inside the mitten-shaped contour, add one strip on each side to form the tool frame. From above with a wavy line with curls around the edges draw the neck of the harp. Diagonal line depict the base to which the strings are attached.

Draw strings coming from the neck of the harp to the base and add some details to the instrument. Delete unnecessary lines and draw a sketch. After the harp is drawn, it can be painted. A yellow or light orange color is best for this.

Drawing a pedal harp

Having mastered the simple ways how to draw a harp with a pencil, you can try a more complex option. To do this, it is best to take two simple pencils of different hardness: very hard (2H or H) and soft (2B or softer). A hard pencil will be needed for sketching, while soft ones are easier to draw outlines and add details.

Harp drawing steps

The harp is a rather high instrument, so the sheet of paper on which you will draw it should be placed vertically. For convenience, you can use a ruler and a hard pencil to draw a large rectangle and divide it into equal sectors by drawing 3 lines vertically and 3 horizontally at the same distance from each other. The result is a 4 x 4 grid of identical rectangles. Here's how to draw a harp with a pencil in stages:

  • At the intersection between the left sector above and the rectangle directly below it, draw a circle. Then draw a diagonal line through the center of this circle down. It should end at the intersection with the lower right sector, not reaching the edges of the grid.
  • Draw another diagonal line down from the left edge of the circle.
  • Connect these two lines from below and outline the harp stand.
  • From the upper right sector down to the stand, draw a slightly slanted line. Mark the column and crown of the harp on it. The column is similar in shape to an elongated rectangle, and the crown consists of a trapezoid and a thin oval. At the bottom of the column, sketch the same element as above.
  • In two lines resembling a wave, depict the neck of the harp, which connects the column and the previously drawn circle.
  • Add additional lines to show the volume of the harp, outline the location of the legs.
  • With ovals, depict pedals on a stand.
  • Add a few lines to refine the shape of the harp.
  • Draw the strings of the instrument and mark with dots the pegs of the harp on its neck. Also, draw an additional line on the top of the tool that follows the shape of the neck.
  • Wipe the auxiliary lines and draw the main outline with a soft pencil. Try to make lines of different thicknesses to make the picture look more voluminous. It is also not superfluous to add some shadows to the picture.
