The Underground Empire Series: James Darmody

James Darmody is a fictional character in one of HBO's Underground Empire series. Terence Whitner, creator of the project, invited Michael Pitt to this role. Visually, the man is very similar to the young Leonardo Di Caprio. This can also be seen in the photo of James Darmody. How did the fate of this character develop?

Prototype

The image and biography of James Darmody are almost completely copied from Jimmy Boyd. This man was also a gangster, but lived in a later period than the one described by the television series. There is another difference. The fact is that Jimmy never worked as a driver for Naki.

Biography

At the time of the birth of her son, Gillian was barely 13 years old. The girl was an orphan, but, despite this, she managed to get to her feet and raise a child herself.

James Darmody's mom

James Darmody was patronized by the city treasurer of Atlantic City and part-time boss of the underground world Enoch Thompson, who in certain circles was nicknamed Naki. He even managed to attach the young man to a prestigious university and predicted him the place of his successor. That's just the guy began to show his character early. The man left the university and went to defend France on the front of the First World War. He returned to his hometown only three years later, having received a serious leg injury and becoming an experienced killer.

James Darmody at the front

With no education, James Darmody could only get to the service of the “Naki” as a personal driver. The guy’s character was adamant and he decided to prove to the boss that he was capable of more. He attacked one of Enoch Thompson 's clients . In order not to substitute the chef, the man had to leave his hometown for some time and move to Chicago. In the capital of the criminal world of America, the guy was met by his longtime friend Capone.

When the trial of his case was hushed up, James Darmody returned to his hometown. He became close to Naki again. Just now, the guy’s ambitions have already gone wild. On the advice of his own father, he became a member of a conspiracy against Enoch Thompson. Subsequently, James repents of his act. That's just Naki will not forgive him. At the end of the second season, the Mafia boss kills Darmody with his own hands.

Relations

Before being sent to the front, gangster James Darmody began an affair with a young artist named Angela. The girl even became pregnant from him and bore him a son. That's just a man at that time already fought on the fronts of the First World War. He did not write letters to his girlfriend, as he believed that he would die in France. Immediately after his return, he again appeared on the threshold of her house, but only this meeting did not bring anything good. The guy has changed a lot, and Angela was simply afraid of him. The son did not recognize his own father at all.

James Darmody with his son

Compounding everything was another piquant moment. The fact is that Angela managed to spin an affair with the wife of a local photographer. She even intended to emigrate with her to Europe.

After attacking Thompson's clients, James Darmody unexpectedly left for Chicago and came back just as unexpectedly. Angela hated the guy’s unpredictability. She wanted a stable, ongoing relationship. As a result, the man simply stopped communicating with her. He talked only with his son. Angela's girlfriend betrayed her and one left for Paris, she even sent her a greeting card from there. Here is a kind of mockery.

As a result, James Darmody and Angela managed to make peace. They seriously talked to each other and decided to simply delete the past years from their lives and start all over again.

Communication with parents

While James served in the army, Gillian resumed communication with his father. The danger threatening his son only brought the couple closer. James did not want to talk to him. The first dialogue between son and father occurred only towards the end of the first season of the series.

Plot changes

The creator of the series has always stated that he will eventually kill the character of Michael Pitt. However, Terence Whitner could not even imagine that this would happen so early. He planned to get rid of a young ambitious mafia in the 3-4 season of the project. That's just fate made its own adjustments. The fact is that actor Debney Coleman, who played the role of father James Darmody, was diagnosed with oncology. Due to illness, Debney was unable to continue work on the project, and the whole script had to be quickly rewritten. As a result, Terence Whitner decided to kill one of the main characters at the end of the second season of the project.
