Yankovsky was born on February 23, 1944 in the small Kazakh town of Karsakpay, in the family of a former guard officer. Soon they moved to Saratov. Oleg was nine years old when his father died from wounds received during the First World War. The family lived hard, three children were supported by one mother.

At the age of 14, Oleg was taken to his older brother Rostislav, who worked at the Minsk Drama Theater. Here Jankowski made his stage debut, replacing the actress-travesty, who played the boy Edik in the “Drummer” by A. D. Salynsky. After graduation, he entered the Saratov Theater School. As it turned out a few months after the start of studies, they accepted him instead of his middle brother Nikolai, who passed a creative contest. They just got mixed up. He was taken to the local theater only thanks to the insistence of his wife - actress Lyudmila Zorina. And for a long time, the actor Oleg Yankovsky was known in the city as the husband of the star of the Saratov Theater.

After demobilization, he worked as an assistant director, then an actor in various Ukrainian theaters. In 1949 he graduated from the theater-studio at the Zaporizhzhya Theater. Since 1955, the artistic director and artist of the Kiev symphonic and jazz pop orchestra "Dnipro". During this period, Grinko performed a lot with parody and comedy numbers.

Moreover, he never hid the fact that he was in a prestigious institute thanks to his father, People's Artist of the USSR Nikolai Eremenko. From 1971 to 1976 he worked in the Theater Studio of the Cinema Actor, then focused on the cinema.

The debut on the big screen took place in 1969 in Gerasimov’s painting “By the Lake”. This was followed by filming in popular Soviet films, including "Red and Black" (1976), "Walking through the agony" (1977) and "Tavern on Pyatnitskaya". In 1980, he was recognized as the country's best actor for the role of senior mechanic Sergei Sergeyevich in the first Soviet action movie "Pirates of the XX Century." After this film, Eremenko became not just a famous Soviet actor, but a superstar of domestic cinema.

In subsequent years, he starred a lot, among the best works of films - "In Search of Captain Grant", "At the Beginning of Glorious Deeds" and "Sniper". The last role of the actor was the father of Cosmos in the cult television series "Brigade", which was released a year after the death of Nikolai Eremenko.
