At present, it is impossible to imagine a full examination by a gynecologist without a gynecological kit. It is worthwhile to find out in more detail what the set consists of, what sizes it is and what variations exist.
Gynecological kit: what is included in it?
There are several options for packaging disposable sets. Their contents are similar, however, some of them have additional components intended for the collection of diagnostic smears.
The basic composition of the gynecological kit consists of the following components:
- sterile latex gloves;
- under diaper;
- Cuzco mirrors, allowing you to examine the mucous membrane of the cervix and the walls of the vagina.
Unlike the standard metal mirror, which is used when examining women in consultation, it is made of plastic with transparent walls. It is used once and is not subject to repeated sterilization.
Set variations
The difference from the basic set is only in the presence of additional tools. So, the main options for gynecological kits and their equipment:
- With Ayer trowel. This plastic spatula has a surface with micropores, which makes it possible to better fix the test material on the instrument. It is used to take material from the walls of the vagina, cervical canal and the surface of the mucous membrane of the cervix.
- With a spoon of Volkman. This tool has a handle, the ends of which are equipped with working parts in the form of spoons. In gynecology and venereology, Volkman's spoon is often used to collect material from the urethra and cervical canal, as well as from the surface of the cervical mucosa.
- A kit with a cytobrush designed to collect material from the mucous membranes. The handle and the working part is a cyto brush. Its working part is covered with elastic soft bristles. If necessary, it can be bent at the desired angle. For nulliparous, the cytobrush will be an indispensable part of the gynecological kit.
- A set, which, in addition to the basic components, will include all of the above tools: Eyer's spatula, Volkman's spoon, cytobrush, and two other glass slides are available.
Gynecological kit selection by size
You should pay attention to the size of the kit when choosing it. This applies mainly to the size of the Cuzco mirror. Based on this principle, gynecological sets may vary in width of the mirror leaf and in size. Allocate such dimensions:
- XS - 70 mm - leaf length, 14 mm - inner diameter;
- S - 75 and 23 mm;
- M - 85 and 25 mm;
- L - 90 and 30 mm.
Not giving birth is enough to use a small mirror. But the use of larger mirrors is justified if there is a history of childbirth.
Of course, when you visit a specialist, you can take a pair of gloves and a diaper with you, in the office of any gynecologist there is a gynecological mirror. But more convenient to use will be an individual (already assembled) gynecological kit. In addition, it is sterile and designed for disposal after the first use.
