The world sporting event - the Winter Olympics of 2022 - is already the subject of heated discussion today. The main question that worries so many people on the planet is: "Where, then, will this grandiose action take place and what are the plans for the winner of the vote?"

The 2022 Olympics will be the twenty-fourth in a row in the history of the Winter Olympics. It will be held from February 4 to February 20, 2022. The question of where it is better to conduct it has been discussed for quite some time.
Candidates for the Olympics 2022
In 2012, the IOC announced the start of accepting applications for the 2022 Olympics. One of the first who expressed a desire to host the Winter Olympic Games was the capital of Kazakhstan. The city of Almaty previously applied for the 2014 Olympics, then there were seven applicants, but the Kazakh metropolis dropped out of the competition before the final, and the city of Russia Sochi won and successfully hosted the Olympic Games. The capital of China a little later also applied for the Olympics.
In addition to Beijing and Almaty, they nominated themselves, but later withdrew from the vote:
1. Munich. In November, the Munich population did not support the idea of holding the Olympic Games in 2022, and the German side refused to participate.
2. Davos. Swiss residents also decided not to apply as a result of the referendum.
3. Barcelona at the last moment decided that it could not accept the Olympic Games-2022.
4. Stockholm. The city decided that Sweden was not ready to host the Winter Olympics in 2022.
5. Krakow. In May 2014, a vote was held in Poland on the issue of holding the Olympics. The result is a rejection of the application.
6. Lviv. Ukraine decided to run later at the 2026 Olympics due to political and economic instability in the country.
7. Oslo. The Norwegian capital was one of the contenders for the finals, but in October 2014 withdrew the application, because the kingdom government announced its unwillingness to provide financial guarantees.
Voting process
As a result, the circle of applicants for holding decreased to a minimum, and only the Chinese and Kazakhstan capitals remained. There was no such thing that only 2 candidates reached the vote a long time ago, so the IOC, so that this situation would not happen again, decided to take a number of measures in the future:
- Optimize your overall expenses
- make the application process more rigorous;
- to divide the costs into those that will be implemented directly to ensure the competition, and those that will go on the development of urban infrastructure;
- ensure respect for natural resources;
- fight for the "purity" of athletes.
Before the start of the vote, Beijing and Almaty presented short films covering all the advantages and disadvantages of the Olympics. Then the electronic voting began. But at the most inopportune moment, they announced that the system had failed, and a second vote began, as a result of which it became known that the Olympics in 2022 will be held in the capital of China. At the same time, the gap in votes was minimal - 44 against 40 votes.
Beijing or Almaty
Where will the 2022 Olympics be in Beijing or in the capital of Kazakhstan? At the end of July 2015, at a vote of the International Olympic Committee in Kuala Lumpur, it became known that the Winter Olympics would be held in the capital of the Middle Kingdom - the city of Beijing.
The most interesting thing is that the capital of China will be the first in the history of the Olympic Games, which will host the summer and then the winter Olympics.
Beijing's plans for the 2022 Olympics
Where the 2022 Olympics will be held is already known, but Beijing’s willingness to host the Olympic Games is interesting.
In an application for the Winter Olympics, the capital of the Middle Kingdom announced the preparation of 12 sports facilities, among which 6 are real-life sports facilities for today, and another 6 will be built from scratch in the near future. The 2022 Olympics will be held not only in Beijing, but also in the Yanqing and Zhangzyakou zones.
The Yanqing Zone is located on the outskirts of Beijing near the Great Wall of China and has convenient transportation and rich tourist resources, high-class resorts.
Beijing is an international metropolis, offers a wide variety of housing: world-class star hotels, stylish and comfortable budget hotels, exquisite Chinese traditional yards and resorts of various styles, so the capital of China meets the IOC requirements.
Olympics 2022, the benefits of holding in Beijing
After Almaty did not qualify for the 2014 Olympics, it began not only to develop all its strengths, but also to eliminate the shortcomings. For example, insufficient experience in organizing large-scale competitions. Recently, the Kazakh capital not only held the Asian Winter Games, but also did it very successfully, in addition, hosted the World Field Hockey Championship and other smaller sports. In 2017, the Kazakh capital will host the World Winter Universiade.
So, if the Olympics-2022 will be held in Beijing, then the capital of China has its own prospects and advantages:
- improved urban infrastructure;
- 6 ready-made and 3 sports facilities under construction;
- the presence of a high-speed railway that connects the competition areas;
- Olympic villages according to the plan will be located not far from each other;
- Beijing intends to further develop an environmental way to build facilities and sports facilities;
- the existence of many sports and residential facilities for the location of all participants and fans;
- experience in hosting the 2008 Olympics.
Beijing Winter Olympics 2022: Existing Risks
Along with many advantages, there are significant disadvantages and risks that cannot be eliminated:
- use of artificial snow cover;
- Ski jumping according to plan will take place in the Zhangzyakou zone, and for this to happen, about 400 residents of the city need to be relocated;
- the problem of air pollution is becoming increasingly important in the region;
- providing snow cover will require a substantial withdrawal of water from reservoirs;
- Sports facilities in the Yanqin Zone will be located next to the National Nature Reserve.
