The detective, of course, is one of the most interesting genres in the field of cinema and literature. The best detective story, or rather, its plot, is saturated with intrigue and ups and downs that capture fans. With bated breath they follow movie heroes, trying to figure out everything that is happening with them. The well-known confrontation between good and bad is well revealed in this film genre in the image of a criminal and an honest representative of the law.
The emergence of the detective genre
It is believed that the birthplace of the detective genre is England. It was there that the best detective writers lived: Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle and others, whose works became a source of inspiration for filmmakers and screenwriters. Any film made based on the works of classics of literature deserves the title of "The Best Detective." In Russia, this genre appeared in literature only at the end of the 19th century, when censorship was lifted and the Iron Curtain was canceled. In the USSR, the detective was one of the most popular and sought-after genres.
Russian masterpieces
It is rather difficult to single out the best Russian detective , but, according to contemporaries, the following pictures are worthy of this title.
- The brainchild of director Janik Fayziev "Turkish Gambit." The narrative of the picture unfolds against the backdrop of the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. The main character, titular adviser Erast Fandorin (Yegor Beroev), together with a random fellow traveler Varvara Suvorova (Olga Krasko) reveal a mysterious and confusing case of military espionage. In addition to the brilliant casting, the movie boasts a strong, peppy plot without annoying sagging.
- "Capercaillie" was the first series that all viewers believed without exception. Its main advantage is simplicity. Since 2008, since the release of the first season, he has not lost his popularity and the sympathy of the audience throughout all 3 seasons. Each of them had its own unique atmosphere, separate memorable episodes, from comedic to tragic. The main characters remained unchanged - school friends, investigator Sergei Glukharev and traffic police officer Denis Antoshin.
- âKarpovâ is a product of fruitful cooperation between the creative duo of directors Igor Romashchenko and Ivan Shchegolev. The main character, ex-lieutenant colonel of the police Stas Karpov (Vladislav Kotlyarsky), made a mistake in the past and sets up a whole world against himself, but proudly accepts the blows of fate. The plot of the story is built on deep remorse, born in a fierce heart by everyone's beloved character.
Distinctive features of the genre
The detective film is characterized by an exciting plot plot. The viewer does not know who is guilty to the last. He studies all the evidence along with the main characters and gradually gets acquainted with all the suspects, calculating the villain. The best detective is the one that you canât guess who is the criminal after all, until the last minutes of the timing of the picture begin.
As for the main characters, there are always several of them: the good and evil characters, as well as the victim, several suspects and lazy or corrupt policemen who confuse the investigation. And, of course, in any detective film at the end, goodness always triumphs and answers to all questions are given.
Russian classic
For a certain part of the national cinema viewer, the best detective story is the Russian film âTen Little Indiansâ (1987). And from the Soviet series, the popular ones are ZnatoKi, âThe meeting place cannot be changed,â âVisit to the Minotaur,â âConfrontation.â
- "Ten Little Indians." The film is based on the work of Agatha Christie. Many film critics call the creation of Stanislav Govorukhin the best quality film adaptation in Soviet cinema. The plot is known: 10 people arrive on a small remote island to spend a pleasant time in a chic mansion. They donât even suspect that they were gathered together with a specific goal - to judge, and very soon they will be sentenced. From the first minutes, the picture plunges the viewer into an ominous muddy whirlpool of intrigue and mystery. Properly selected color resolution (tones of grayish-brown, muffled) aggravates the impression of viewing. The main roles are played by the most talented and sought-after Soviet actors of the 80s: V. Zeldin, T. Drubich, A. Kaydanovsky, A. Zharkov, A. Romashin, L. Maksakova, M. Gluzsky, A. Zolotnitsky, I. Tereshchenko, A. Abdulov.
- âConfrontationâ - the famous movie based on the novel by Julian Semenov. The director Semyon Aranovich managed to keep the amazing atmosphere of intense intellectual competition, confrontation, a duel between two very powerful, quick-witted, insightful and dodgy minds throughout the timekeeping. And there were no dashing pursuits, frantic shootouts and tricks. The viewer feels the spirit of persecution until the climax. The protagonist, an investigator (actor Oleg Basilashvili), versed in the case, understands almost immediately that the crime is not an ordinary criminal offense: everything is much deeper from both a historical and moral point of view.
The best detective - a series filmed in the USSR
Recently, the world film industry has replenished with several resonant versions about the adventures of the great detective - the work of Guy Ritchie "Sherlock Holmes" and "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" and the British series Sherlock. Despite their frenzied popularity, the viewer's love for Igor Maslennikovâs classic Soviet series âSherlock Holmes and Dr. Watsonâ (the movie cycle is 5 films) did not decrease at all, but rather increases. The script of the initial two episodes of the series was written by Julius Dunsky and Valery Frid. The audience should have been attracted by the contrast of the characters of Dr. Watson (Vitaliy Solomin) and Sherlock Holmes (Vasily Livanov). The situation was always discharged by the appearance of a cute housewife, Mrs. Hudson (Rina Zelenaya). Immediately after the release of the screen, films gained unimaginable popularity, and the phrases of movie heroes became winged. The creators were literally inundated with letters of request from readers in which they insisted on continuing. The authors of the series practically repeated the fate of Conan Doyle, who also continued the epic book about Holmes according to the numerous demands of readers.
Important little things
The best detective story differs from second-rate pictures in that everything in it, even the most unremarkable moments, are important. The main point of the detective is the fact of the crime and all kinds of attempts to find the culprit in this crime. The film can be a combination of genres of mysticism, comedy and romance. The whole environment created by the author is as close as possible to real life, so you can easily feel like one of the heroes of this work. Such is the best detective about investigating serial killings, or rather, since it is extremely difficult to give preference to one project. These are the paintings âManiacâ (2012), âHannibal: Ascentâ (2006), âAmerican Psychoâ (2000), âCollectorâ, etc.
Detective films
"Maniac" (2012). Director Frank Halfun, joining forces with producer Alexander Azh and his regular cameraman Maxim Alexander, did the almost impossible - he returned to the genre primitive fear, pain and horror, which can be felt literally physically. The main character maniac Frank (Elijah Wood) regularly removes scalps from unfortunate victims, after attaching them to mannequins. The plot is pretty commonplace. But after the hero meets a nice decent girl and seems to begin to build an ordinary healthy relationship with her, but no: an ominous nature makes itself felt.
Hannibal: Ascension (2006). Director Peter Webber decided to tell the whole world about the tragic past of the greatest villain of all time. Young Lecter is played by the pretty Gaspard Ulliel. All his deviations are explained by death, or rather the murder and eating of the younger sister by the Nazis. The main character takes revenge on the cannibals. Also a certain contribution to the formation of his personality was made by the love of Murasaki (Gong Li).
The American Psycho (2000). Mary Harron impressed many with her professionalism after the release of the picture for rent. Her film turned out to be very non-standard, and after a certain period began to be considered a cult. In the center of the storytelling Patrick Bateman: by day - a respectable businessman, at night - a bloody maniac, torturing his unfortunate victims in perverted and sophisticated ways. With each new kill, he becomes more and more unstable.
A bit about other films
Separately, it should be said about detective films in which there is an element of mysticism: The Green Mile (1999), Sleepy Hollow (1999). The villains in this case are otherworldly forces or people who have a mental disorder. These include The Island of the Damned (2009), The Sixth Sense (1999), The Devil's Advocate (1997). Extremely popular are films and series in which they catch a dangerous maniac: "Seven" (1995), "Silence of the Lambs" (1990). Actual are film detectives, in which there are notes of love, romance and eroticism (Ghost 1990).
What is the best detective, it is definitely impossible to say because of the individual preferences of each individual viewer.
