The term "Lyushka rib" in medicine means the improper development of costal cartilage in humans, in which there is a splitting of their anterior section. Pathology, as a rule, is one-sided and cannot be attributed to diseases. In most cases, it is only a deviation from normal development without reducing the quality of life. Providing the child with a healthy future, at the first suspicion of such an anomaly of development, parents should visit a doctor to do an X-ray examination of the child.
What is it about
The so-called Lyushka rib is diagnosed, as already mentioned, by a bifurcation in the front. This formation is quite dense and usually forms near the sternum. It is easy to notice, since it acts as a dense tubercle. Actually, these are all the symptoms that appear with a diagnosis of Lyushka’s rib.
Treatment is carried out exclusively in rare cases - when the patient pursues cosmetic goals. The operation to remove the defect is a subchondral removal of deformed cartilage malformations.
Pathology and Sports
Caring parents strive to ensure that their child can live a full life. If a child was diagnosed with Lyushka's rib, remember, this does not mean serious limitations in everyday life.
But the deformation can be developed weakly or strongly. With strong deviations from the norm, the anomaly still leaves its mark on human life, but such cases are rare. For the most part, deformations are insignificant, and therefore a child with them can lead an active life from an early age, dance, play sports, play outdoor games.
On the other hand, if a sharp force effect on the abnormal zone occurs, the child may suffer. Say, when playing football, you can get seriously injured if a ball that is fired with force will fly into the chest. However, completely healthy children are not immune from this. But swimming is unconditionally advised by all doctors, since this sport is useful, safe from the point of view of possible injury.
And to serve?
Another pressing issue with the described diagnosis is the army. Many parents (and the children themselves) would like to find a reason not to serve in this pathology. But according to current rules, Lyushka’s rib is not a sufficient reason for exemption from service to the Motherland. This is due to the fact that the anomaly is not life threatening and does not require treatment.
And how does it look normal?
The rib in the human body is a pair of bones in the shape of an arc. The ribs at the spine begin, from there the bones smoothly turn towards the sternum, where they close, forming the chest. All vertebrates have a similar structure. How many ribs does a healthy person have? Normal development implies them in the amount of 12 pairs, each of which is adjacent to its vertebra.
Two ends of the ribs are distinguished:
- anterior (gradually turning into cartilage);
- posterior (having a tubercle, neck, head).
The connection of the ribs and spine is provided precisely by the posterior end of the bones. The body of the rib is located between its ends. Doctors distinguish two of its surfaces, one of which extends along the convex side, the second - along the concave. The restriction occurs by the edges, of which one is somewhat pointed, and the second, located on top, has a rounded shape.
The development of the system of ribs and spine is possible with anomalies that do not reduce the quality of human life. A typical example is the Lyushka rib under consideration. Another situation is a reduced number of rib pairs. The 12th pair, and sometimes the 11th, may be absent. Less often, an additional 13th pair is recorded.
Not always how many ribs are missing depends on a birth defect; they can be removed by a doctor if a person pursues aesthetic goals. A prime example is weight loss. Occasionally, a doctor may formulate indications for removal of the lower free pairs of ribs.
Features of the pathology of the ribs
The described plug of Lyushka is very rare - in 1.2% of cases. This defect is congenital and has clear signs:
- violation is unilateral;
- the front part of the rib is split into two parts.
Doctors note that due to the fact that he does not manifest himself in any way, the diagnosis of pathology is difficult.
But occasionally a defect has a serious impact on a person’s life - neuromuscular function suffers. This is manifested by improper, heavy breathing and the difficulty of transferring stressful situations. Statistics say that the described defect may be accompanied by another abnormality - odontogenic keratocyst of the lower jaw. If the child is characterized by Lyushka's rib, then the so-called compression syndrome is also possible (the effect of squeezing tissues with increased bone mass).
It is necessary to seek the help of a doctor with such a defect in the ribs if the development of pathology entails a violation of health or in cases when it is important from an aesthetic point of view. The doctor may refer the patient to the surgeon to remove an abnormally growing rib. During the operation, the cartilage and bone tissue of the defective area is excised.
