We all use various hints and euphemisms in our speech, for social life does not favor the truth. Well, it’s not that our life is all lies, decay and decay, but a person with a person, as a rule, cannot be frank. In general, euphemisms penetrate into all spheres of our life, and this is due to the fact that philanthropy and Western trends teach us to be tolerant and tolerant. We no longer say the words “old age”, “illness”, “death”, by the way, about the eternal companion of life. Researcher-thanatologist Sergei Ryazantsev points out that in all languages there are milder replacements for the verb “die”. And this is no accident. Death is still as mysterious as it was centuries ago. We don’t really know anything about her, but she still terribly scares people, and religions have not yet been able to cope with the basic social order - to remove the horror of a person before disappearing into the stream of nothingness.
Everything is clear with death, but the old, sick, fat and feeble began to be indecent quite recently, besides, certain special names appeared for people of diverse ethnic groups living in different countries.
Therefore, we can say that the language itself becomes slightly veiled, which, in turn, sometimes erodes the meaning of the statement.
Social life has a softening effect
Imagine a situation when a person is sent to retirement. If the leader has a heart, then he finds himself in an awkward situation: on the one hand, he needs to send a person for a well-deserved rest, but one cannot say directly about the reason for dismissal, if it comes to age. And so approaches of this kind begin: “Vasily Kuzmich, are you not tired? Maybe you should pay more time to your family and grandchildren? ” A smart person will understand that a reduction is coming, and if he respects himself and the leader, then he will go to rest without further ado.
Although a hint of unpleasant, even veiled, is what leaves a feeling of absurdity or disgust.
For example, when a person is fired, sometimes only interjections and heavy sighs speak of this. But people understand what it is about.
Do I need to resort to winks and omissions?
This is a difficult question. On the one hand, a politically correct newspeak obscures the meaning. For example, when we call a sick person “special”, then, on the one hand, we soften rudeness, and on the other hand, it becomes unclear how he distinguished himself.
But if such changes do not harm the actual side of the matter, then there is no reason not to use a language veil. For example, tell father or grandfather that he is "aged" and not "old." Such a transformation of the essence of the matter will not change, but it will not be so offensive for relatives to realize that time, unfortunately, is inexorable, forces leave and, in general, take their years.
