Reliability in battle, huge lethal force, unique technology - it's all about the Kord weapons family. The heavy machine gun for many years of existence managed to take part in several wars. The machine appeared recently, but was already able to show decent results. Confidently holds its position in the TOP of the best examples of Russian weapons and the sniper rifle "Kord". What is noteworthy in this weapon, why it was so fond of both the professional military and ordinary theorists, what qualities distinguish it from its counterparts? This will be discussed.
Pedigree
The end of the 1980s was a difficult era in the life of our country. The spirit of impending changes was in the air, but a number of events did not allow naively to dream that these changes would turn life for the better. The approaching collapse of the empire was no longer in doubt. The sunset of a whole era was coming; it was impossible not to notice it.
He smelled the breath of the wind of change and the underworld. Criminals secured themselves by stocking up with weapons of all calibers. However, he always did this ... But at that turbulent time , the arms trade beyond the control of the authorities took on a gigantic scale. In the context of corruption and lack of funding, the criminal world has armed itself better than state-controlled security forces. This was the impetus for the development of a fundamentally new sniper rifle, which could penetrate not only the body armor and helmet, but also the armor of the car, and at a fairly solid distance. The events in Chechnya also confirmed this need - regular troops needed to update their arsenal no less than law enforcement officers.
Several design bureaus took up the development at once. And soon a new weapon was created.
The good name of Degtyarevsky arms factory sounded again. The designers M. Yu. Kuchin, E. V. Zhuravlev, Yu. N. Ovchinnikov and V. I. Negrulenko developed and presented to the experts a fundamentally new rifle, which received the name "SVN-98". It was executed according to the Bull-Pap scheme. This name denotes the location of the store behind the trigger. Such a scheme made it possible to significantly lengthen the barrel, while maintaining the same dimensions.
Already the first tests showed how powerful the effect was achieved by the Kovrov arms manufacturers. The length of the new rifle was 1350 millimeters, 1000 of which were on the barrel.
Later, the rifle was renamed KSVK (Kovrov sniper rifle large-caliber). In 2004, she was waiting for another rebranding: under the new name ASVK, she was put into service in some units of the army of the Russian Federation. But this name did not become final. Large-caliber sniper rifle "Cord" - so now this weapon is called.
Recoil
Minimizing recoil was one of the main requirements for the new rifle. After all, it was assumed that the caliber of the ammunition would be quite large, and the slaughter range was required considerable. Payback for such benefits, as a rule, serves, but the tar workers managed to minimize it. One of the main factors can be safely called a muzzle brake compensator, worked out by a special technology. According to experts, it was only thanks to him that he managed to reduce the return by 2.5 times. An important role was also played by the design of the barrel - in itself quite massive, it was worked out as a floating type. The butt pad specialists finished with special porous material, shock absorbing when fired.
Ammunition
At that time, Russia's most powerful sniper rifle , the Kord, needed a solid cartridge. Its development was headed by V. N. Dvoryaninov. Based on the standard cartridge 12.7 x 108 mm, a special sniper cartridge 12.7CH was created. This ammunition is characterized by increased lethal force and shows better accuracy. In addition to it, for the Kord rifle, you can also use regular BZT-44, BZT-44M, BZ cartridges with a B-32 bullet. It should be noted that the listed cartridges do not give such high indicators of accuracy at long distances.
Optics
Sniper rifle "Cord" can be equipped with additional optical devices, including night sights. Most often, 1P71 and 1PN111 are used for it (for shooting in the dark). Installation of such sights as PSO-1, POS 13x60, POS 12x50 is possible. Of course, you can carry out targeted shooting with the help of the "rear sight - front sight" group.
Destination
The main tasks that the ASVK Kord sniper rifle was supposed to perform were the defeat of the enemy’s manpower and light armor at a considerable distance. Tests have shown that an enemy dressed in body armor can be struck from this rifle from a distance of one and a half kilometers.
Device features
Even when the large-caliber sniper rifle "Kord" was just being developed, a number of innovative and non-standard solutions were supposed. The floating barrel for this weapon is made by cold forging. It is fixed cantilever without touching any other part. The muzzle brake compensator also performs the functions of a flame arrester.
The sniper rifle "Kord" has a longitudinally-sliding shutter, which makes it easy to work without taking your eyes off the target. As with most peers, burst mode is not provided. A rigid box of a massive barrel and manual reloading contribute to increasing the accuracy of fire.
Even on the first versions of the rifle, the loading handle was located on the right. The fuse box also played the role of a latch for the cover of the window of the receiver. The supply of cartridges was carried out from a removable box magazine with a capacity of 5 rounds. Between the butt and the handle was located the cartridge receiving chamber. Departure of spent cartridges occurred through the window on the right. In the neutral position, the window was covered with a lid so that foreign objects, moisture and dust did not get into it.
Modern sniper rifle "Kord" has a number of features compared to the first versions, but most of them are insignificant. Like the ASVK, it has a handle for transfer, folding bipods are attached to a special rod on the bottom of the receiver.
"Cord" in service
As originally intended, the first thing the Kord rifle fell into the hands of law enforcement. Currently, it is in service with some special forces in Russia. The rifle also went to the military: scouts, motorized rifles, paratroopers. The track record of these weapons includes participation in both Chechen campaigns.
Prospects
What say those in whose hands the Kord sniper rifle has already been? The characteristic is given to her by almost the same. It has established itself both in the field and in densely populated metropolitan areas. It can be assumed that the degtyarevites will not stop there and will continue to improve their brainchild.
At the moment, the Kord sniper rifle, the price of which usually does not exceed $ 15,000, is firmly in the top ten best sniper rifles ever made in Russia.
