"Viking" film (2017): plot
The action takes place in the X century in Russia. After Prince Svyatoslav, three sons remained: Yaropolk, Oleg and Vladimir. When Oleg, due to the fault of his brother Yaropolk, Prince of Kiev, dies, according to pagan custom, the youngest of the family, Prince Vladimir of Novgorod, must avenge him.
He goes to Polotsk to the Varangian Rogvolod to marry his daughter Rogneda and thus gain his support. But she refuses Vladimir and says that his mother is a slave. The prince becomes furious, and his squad kills Rogvolod and his wife. And Vladimir forcibly takes the princess as a wife.
The prince goes to Kiev, but there is no one in the city. On the river, the Vikings notice the ship on which Irina is located - the wife of Yaropolk, and take her prisoner. The Kiev prince comes to save his wife, but he is killed in front of his warrior Varyazhko.
So Vladimir becomes the prince of all Russia and the first thing he does is erect the temple of the ancient idol of Perun, which was honored by his father Svyatoslav.
Once in Kiev, a pagan holiday is held, at which the magi should sacrifice a child. Vladimir quarrels with the sorcerer and Irina unexpectedly consoles him. She tells the prince about Jesus Christ.
The Kiev prince is going on a campaign in Korsun. The siege of the city lasts quite a while, and many of its warriors flee the camp at night. But in the end, the prince shuts off the water supply, and the city surrenders. Vladimir goes to the temple, where he encounters Anastas - Irina’s spiritual mentor, after talking with whom, he decides to be baptized.
In the final of the film, Anastas baptizes Kiev in the Dnieper, and at the place where Perun stood, the Orthodox cross rises.
