Returning to his homeland, the man meets his fiancée Kelly Frears, who escorts him on the next official flight.
During the flight from the USA to Malaysia, the plane with the inspector crashes in the Pacific Ocean and only Chuck manages to survive. He finds salvation on an inflatable raft, which is moving away from the plane and eventually nailed to the shore of an uninhabited island.
Here he will spend more than four years. During this time, the hero experiences all the "charms" of Robinson's life stories, starting with the "art" of breaking coconuts and trying to make fire.
Once the main character catches one of the dead crew members of the plane and bury him. Together with the body on the shore of his new "home", FedEx undelivered packages appear that contain various Christmas gifts that help the man in his everyday life.
Among the “gifts” of the delivery service, Chuck discovers steel-bladed skates and a volleyball that receives the name “Wilson” in honor of the sportswear manufacturer of the same name. The latter becomes not just a leisure activity, but the real and only friend with whom the hero constantly talks and consults in order to maintain the moral standard of society. One package found ashore remains a sealed "hope" of salvation.
After four years of life on the island of Chuck, he finds a fragment of a toilet cubicle and plans to use it as a sail to a makeshift raft in order to overcome the surf. Having built a wooden structure, "Robinson" goes into the open sea away from the island. After a few days of sailing, a cargo ship picks it up. Returning to the United States, Chuck discovers that nothing was left of his former life.
