The youth film-fantasy series “The Secret City” (actors: P. Priluchny, I. Zhizhikin, A. Florinskaya, E. Tashaeva) was created based on the books of contemporary author Vadim Panov. An exciting 16-episode film was staged by the talented Sergey Vinokurov, better known to the public as one of the directors of the sensational criminal long-running series “Gangster Petersburg”, as well as two well-known viewers of domestic historical series “The Death of Wazir-Mukhtar” and “The August Ambassador” . Victor Alisov appeared in the guise of the general producer, previously he supported such television projects as “On the Game”, “Suicides”, “Nightingale the Robber”, “DMB”. The director of the painting was Evgeny Burchiev. The television series was produced by the REN TV channel in a creative union with the film company Studio TG-Film, and the project premiered in November 2013.

The Secret City turned out to be a reliable, albeit somewhat modified adaptation of the writer’s first novels from the series The Secret City - the intriguing “The Losers Start War” and the continuing “War Commander”.

“The Secret City” is a series telling about the features of the so-called “secret” of Moscow, in which representatives of the ancient, almost extinct civilizations of powerful magicians live along with ordinary mortals: People (Green House), Nav (Dark Court) and Chud (Order). All representatives of these cultures have long been mercilessly destroyed and persecuted by people. Their descendants to this day live in the magical Secret City, which is carefully hidden from the average person, and only sometimes the inhabitants of the world of people and magicians intersect. And in one of these moments, an ordinary uninitiated person - Artem Golovin, who is able to change the current situation, penetrates the secret.

Oddly enough, Vadim Panov indirectly facilitated the work on the series for filmmakers. Countless members of the writer’s fan communities and his works helped remove the Secret City. With great pleasure they tried on various images: from the masters of the Great Houses to the Fuhrer of the Red Caps.
Experience comes with trying
It is worth noting that the project for creating a fantasy series was ready back in 2000, but things did not go further than writing the script. And now, finally, having rolled out, the painting "The Secret City", whose actors immediately gained popular love among compatriots, broke the predicted stereotype and did not become an adapted copy of the Games of Thrones or The Hobbit. The fact is that in Russia only desperate daredevils take films in the genre of fantasy, since film critics traditionally perceive Russian masterpieces with hostility against the background of their Western counterparts. As a result, practically nobody knows how to make fantasy paintings in Russia, and they don’t want to try to learn, because critics “beat with sticks” for all the mistakes. In analyzing the picture, it is still worth taking into account the modest (in comparison with Western) domestic budget.
