A Deso dressing is a dressing that immobilizes a specific part of the body. It is used for minor fractures of the clavicle or humerus, as well as for the reposition of a dislocated shoulder. This Deso dressing is also necessary for fixing the arm during the rehabilitation period after some operations on the arm or bone of the arm. It fixes the shoulder along with the forearm to the body of the victim. To apply a bandage, most often the patient is seated, bending his arm at the elbow at right angles.
Deso is a bandage that is applied in several basic steps. The first such step is to bandage the patient’s shoulder to the body. This is achieved by imposing circular and spiral moves. Further, the second part of the Deso dressing consists in removing the bandage from the axillary region on the shoulder girdle of the affected side along the surface of the chest. Next, the bandage lead vertically down to the elbow. Grabbing the elbow with this bandage, they lead again to the healthy side, covering them with the armpit of the healthy side - the elbow is walked around the front and back and lead into the axillary zone of the healthy side. Then all these actions are repeated.
Now, a little more detail on how to apply a Deso dressing. The doctor becomes facing the patient, lightly powdering his muscular cavity with talcum powder, putting a cotton swab into his armpit. This roller is necessary for absorbing sweat all the time while the bandage will fix the hand. In general, a hygienic examination of the axillary region before such a procedure is very desirable.
Then the doctor bends the patient’s arm in the elbow at a right angle, forearm to the stomach. Twice performs a circular tour around the patient’s chest, capturing the sore side, immobilizing the shoulder. Thus, the sore shoulder is captured by a bandage and fixed to the body. The second round is conducted from behind, from the axillary region of the healthy side, on the forearm of the sick side. The third round is a continuation of the second. From the shoulder girdle, the bandage is lowered along the back shoulder surface, then from below the forearm of a bruised or broken arm is covered, so that then you can go to a healthy armpit and further down the back lead to the shoulder of a sore arm. In the fourth round, the bandage falls down along the front shoulder surface, the elbow of the sore arm is covered, it is carried out along the back again through the armpit.
The application of the Deso bandage provides for the repetition of all these tours, except the first, three times. The second, third, fourth rounds described above are repeated three times. After all this, the dressing must be completed with a circular tour around the patient's chest. Then the end of the bandage is fixed with a pin, and the excess part is cut off with scissors. Deso's armband is ready. If long-term fixation of the patient’s arm is necessary, then in this case additional circular rounds can be applied with a special plaster bandage.
Such a bandage can also be applied by a person who does not have a medical education and is not a specialist traumatologist. However, in this case, for a successful overlay, it is important not only to describe the execution technique, but to watch the corresponding video, and for this you need the appropriate training. It may never be necessary for anyone to know how such a bandage is applied. But probably someday you will have to provide someone with first aid in the absence of a doctor. And, perhaps, in this case, such a skill will be useful to you. The application of the Deso dressing is a simple process and is accessible to everyone. However, to learn all this sequence, it is necessary to train several times.
However, it must be said that in our time, non-medical people are no longer required to learn how to apply the Deso dressing. After all, not so long ago a special bandage was invented, corresponding to it. In fact, this is the Deso dressing, but it is solid, made of substances such as polyester, cotton, latex, etc. It is equipped with a Velcro fastener. It not only reliably fixes the limb, but also provides comfort to the patient, warms the affected area well, is suitable for both the right and left hands. For the price it is quite affordable for everyone. Applying a Deso dressing of this type is simpler and faster than using a regular bandage.
