Freestyle wrestling has been known to mankind since ancient times. It allowed more tricks than in the Greco-Roman style. But even this is not enough to show all your skills, to throw out all your emotions. But still there is a kind of struggle where there are no rules and restrictions. The hero of our story today has reached unprecedented heights in this direction.
Elbrus Tedeev. Biography
The athlete was born on December 5, 1974 in the small village of Nogir (570 meters above sea level) in North Ossetia (Alania), the Russian Federation. From the age of 11 he overcame a distance of 10 kilometers to get to training in Vladikavkaz at the Dynamo stadium. First, Elbrus Soslanovich Tedeev drew attention to athletics. The height and weight of the athlete (167 cm, 62 kg) allowed him to engage in many disciplines. But not everyone can afford this sport. Their family had three children, and they did not live very sweetly. It was not always possible to go to bed full, there were times, as the champion himself recalls. No investment was required for the wrestling, and the militant spirit of the ancestors himself brought the boy to the wrestling hall. Engaged in the fight seriously, with perseverance and special fanaticism. They could stay in the hall for days, they even forgot to eat sometimes. As Elbrus himself says, you will eat a roll in a day during a break, and again on a wrestling carpet.
The beginning of a sports career
The first coach of the athlete was Arthur Bazayev, winner of the USSR championship and the owner of the World Cup in freestyle wrestling, who, due to an injury, was unable to play, but he raised many pupils. To this trainer Tedeev Elbrus Soslanovich is grateful for the life values that he absorbed like a sponge. Bazaev taught the young man that one should not pass by someone else’s suffering, that an athlete should be a person worthy of respect first of all. At the Russian championship in 1992 among adult wrestlers of the 19-year-old Elbrus, a famous coach from Ukraine, Boris Soslanovich Savlohov, noticed. He invited the young athlete to continue training with him in Kiev. So in the fall of 1993, the athlete moved to Ukraine on the recommendation of a mentor, where he accepted the citizenship of the country and continued to train in the hall of the Suvorov School.
Tedeev - champion of Ukraine
In 1995, Tedeev Elbrus, speaking for the Ukrainian team, wins his first world freestyle wrestling championship, in the weight category up to 62 kg. The following year, the Olympic Games were held on the same platform in Atlanta, where Elbrus brought his country a bronze medal. In Ankara, 1999 won gold at the World Championships up to 63 kg, and in 2002 became the three-time world champion in the weight category up to 66 kilograms.
Personal life
The Ukrainian athlete began to gain weight because on November 4, 2001, just before the championship, his wedding with Faina Zaseeva took place. Before that, I had to quickly have a snack in a cafe or cook myself. Today they have three beautiful daughters - Diana, Tatiana and the youngest - Eva. The wife is also an Ossetian, an economist by training, but for the most part she studies at home with her daughters. With great pleasure, the father himself likes to spend time with them. Elbrus met Faina at home. At that time she was a student of the Faculty of Economics in Vladikavkaz. The first thing that came to mind the athlete when he saw his future wife - "Komsomol member, athlete, beauty!". For a long time, lovers called up when Elbrus lived in Kiev. Even the phone was turned off for long long-distance calls. The wedding was held in national traditions, however, there were no theft of the bride. Married in the Orthodox Church. The couple dreamed that they had at least three children (as in the Elbrus family). And so it happened, but like every father, Tedeev also dreams of a son.
Before that, Elbrus had two coaches, and now a third has appeared. So playfully says the young spouse. No one, according to Tedeev, put him on the shoulder blades, but Faina did it without a fight. Elbrus was ready to win not only the World Championship in freestyle wrestling, but also the Olympic Games. The wife inspired her husband for new achievements both in sports and in other areas.
Tedeev Elbrus: sports and social activities
Tedeev’s sports career went up. Coach Boris Savlokhov said that it is imperative to glorify Ukraine, which sheltered him. And Tedeev Elbrus Soslanovich worthily fulfills this instruction, winning a gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Also at the closing ceremony of the Olympics, Elbrus was entrusted with carrying the country's flag. In the same year, the administrative and political activities of the athlete begin. Since 2004, Elbrus Tedeev has assumed the post of president of an organization called the “Sports Wrestling Association of Ukraine”, replacing his coach Boris Savlokhov, who died on April 24, 2004. Meanwhile, in Russia, Dzhambalat Tedeev (Elbrus's cousin) from 2001 to 2012 holds the post of head coach of the men's freestyle wrestling team.
Life after sports
Elbrus and his colleague Irina Merleni were solemnly credited to the lists of the International Federation of Combined Styles of Fight (FILA).
After graduating from two higher educational institutions in Ukraine, the athlete continues his further struggle. Sport is being replaced by administrative political activity. In 2006, Tedeev Elbrus Soslanovich received a deputy mandate, representing the Party of Regions in Ukraine, and became a people's deputy of 5.6 and 7 convocations in the Verkhovna Rada. He also holds the post of first deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Family, Youth, Sports and Tourism. Together with his colleagues, he is promoting projects for the development of children from low-income families and boarding houses.

After the Olympics in Rio, where Ukrainian wrestlers showed poor results, Tedeev Elbrus made a final decision. Now the Association of Sports Wrestling of Ukraine will develop without his participation. One way or another, the famous wrestler continues to inspire young people to go in for sports and lead a healthy lifestyle.
An exemplary family man brings up daughters with a wife whom he fondly calls Fainochka. To the question of whether the daughters would play sports on a professional level, Elbrus replied: “No - this is very difficult, and it is simply impossible for them, because we now always have a full refrigerator of food, and in this situation we can achieve high sports results practically impossible. " Elbrus is a little sorry that their family has lost the traditions of their ancestors. Yes, and in their homeland, young people are leaving the places of the elders, who lived almost every 100 years. Modern civilization gives something, but far from always this “something” we really need.
