The new youth film hit âBlame the Starsâ, whose actors are as young as the target audience, was shot by director Josh Boon for almost a penny (by the standards of modern cinema). The finances spent almost immediately paid off after the release of the film, the film raised about 300 million. Many film critics unanimously dubbed the picture a mirror image of Twilight. Heroes who were immortal, but sometimes emotionally dead, come to life only under the influence of love, but the characters of this film âGuilty Starsâ (actors: Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort) slowly die in front of the viewer. For them, death is essentially only a matter of time, but they appear to be the embodiment of wit, energy and enterprise.
The idea is not original
We wonât be tempting, but there were enough such stories âon the edge of the graveâ in the entire history of cinema, from the classic âKnockin 'to Heavenâ and quite recent projects like âDonât give upâ by Gus Van Sent and âUntil I Played in a Boxâ. Therefore, there is no novelty in history. But the film âGuilty Starsâ, actors and roles, intrigue, climax are a tremendous gift to the viewer, because all of her plot narrative does not contain a single fake note. This is undoubtedly the great merit of the author of the literary original Josh Green and the screenwriters Scott Neustadter, Michael H. Weber, who adapted his work for the movie, in close collaboration with the writer. The creators still had a very significant trump card - a pair of very young actors, leading actors. The actors of the film âBlame the Starsâ are a debutant with a disarming smile and charming bravado Ansel Elgort and clever Woodley, vulnerable, cynical and infinitely charming.
Plot
The very young sixteen-year-old girl Hazel Grace Lancaster (played by Shailene Woodley) is slowly and irreparably dying of cancer. Life in the patient is warmed up thanks only to an experimental medicine, which her body absorbs better than most other patients. At the categorical demand of her mother, the girl begins to attend a support group for cancer patients. In one of the sessions, the heroine meets with August Waters (performed by Ansel Elgort), who is 18. A disabled guy, he lost his leg, and, consequently, the opportunity to build a successful basketball career because of osteosarcoma. Teens immediately noticed each other, after a short time they become real friends, and after a couple in love. So begins the melodrama "Blame the Stars."
Main actors. August
Waterson among the new controversial heroes of the modern "girl" movie could win in the nomination "The Most Romantic Protagonist." Who needs the mysterious and gloomy? The role model is an open and cheerful hero who, with his dying wish, makes a trip with his beloved to Amsterdam to her beloved author, William Defoe. And I want to recommend his reference declaration of love for close study to all the lovers in love. In the movie âBlame the Starsâ (male actors faded as one before the leading actor), he sparkles and shines no worse than the same âtwilight vampires,â but he does without expensive special effects.
The romantic heroine. Hazel
Traditionally for films of this kind, Hazel is significantly inferior to Augustus in brilliance, nevertheless, she appears before the viewer as an amazing girl with whom it is interesting and pleasant to make acquaintance at any age. And not necessarily for romance, but rather for communication and friendship. Comprehensively developed, well-read, self-confident, witty and charming, she looks at things soberly and takes care of loved ones more than herself. As a romantic heroine, Lancaster will give odds to both faded Bella and gloomy Katniss. The impression is not spoiled by either a too short haircut (typical for cancer patients), or a cylinder of oxygen, without which the heroine could not breathe. The film âGuilty Starsâ, whose actors deserve all praise, should be recommended to the younger generation for viewing as an appeal to value life.
Atypical teen couple in love
Of all the cinematic lovers of young couples, Augustus and Hazel more than others deserve well-being, joint happiness. Fate gives them only a few months to spend time together, and the more terrible and deeper the tragedy of the heroes. And itâs almost impossible to resist tears when the film âGuilty Starsâ (the actors and the roles of which the viewer will certainly remember) from an almost romantic comedy (at the beginning) turns into a real drama. Fans of this genre are not ashamed to cry soberly when they watch how heroes bravely and steadfastly hold in front of an inevitably impending separation. How lovers try to usefully spend every day and what deep and completely atypical for teenagers thoughts suggest their fatal approach to death. This is the atmosphere the actors in the film âBlame the Starsâ conveyed to the viewer.
Does melodrama have flaws
Naturally, this melodrama is not dynamic like newfangled action blockbusters. Especially the first two-thirds of the narrative seem somewhat drawn out. In addition, the entire part associated with the Defoe character turned out to be drawn and clumsy. One could come up with a more romantic move, a reason to travel to distant Amsterdam, or else develop the theme of the heroineâs favorite book. And for moviegoers with a particularly delicate highly artistic taste, it may seem that the romance of a couple in love is at times off scale and even balances to the point of vulgarity. A detailed study of the cast of the films âBlame the Starsâ and âDivergentâ (the actors of the latter are also young) can be found among the names of both Shailene Woodley and Ancel Elgort, but there they were not so bright and memorable. In addition to these two paintings, Woodley played in the film âDescendantsâ, and Elgort in âTelekinesisâ.
