Geometry and sketching lessons often require you to carry around the workshop with compasses and cliches. But how to draw a circle when there are no special tools at hand? Savvy and improvised devices come to the rescue!
Smooth circle with hands
To do this, you need a sheet of paper, a pencil of medium hardness or a soft one and a hand. Almost all artists use this method when painting needs even circles.
1. We draw a small circle (the eyes of animals, architectural details): the paper is placed on a flat surface, the pencil should be in the hand, as in ordinary writing. Place your hand on the sheet so that it rests on the little finger pad. In this case, the condition that the sheet must be pressed so that it simultaneously reliably contacts the table and that it can be rotated around the axis, i.e. little finger. With the second hand, rotate the paper in a circle, without moving the hand with a pencil. During rotation, the pencil lead should touch the paper, and after the rotation should be an even small circle.

2. How to draw a circle with a diameter of more than 50 mm? You will need the same tools, but the pencil lead should be soft. The difference from the previous method consists in setting up the supporting little finger, in this case it must be bent and pressed to the palm of your hand. Also leaning on the little finger, but not pressing hard on the pencil, turn the sheet and draw a circle.
3. How to draw an ideal circle of large diameter? The algorithm remains the same, but now the supporting little finger is changed to a bulging bone on the wrist. If it is inconvenient, then you can rely on the sheet with your palm.
The biggest difficulty in the described methods is the ability not to move a hand with a pencil. After 2-3 trainings and choosing the optimal sheet rotation speed, these methods will be as simple as drawing a circle with a compass.
Drawing with a protractor
Resourcefulness can more than compensate for forgetfulness, especially when there is no compass nearby, but there is a protractor. This versatile tool more often replaces the usual ruler due to its compactness.
The algorithm "How to draw an even circle using a protractor" consists of 5 steps:
- put a point on a piece of paper - the center of the circle;
- attach the protractor to this point with its base (usually there is already a hole on plastic tools at this point);
- circle with a pencil the rounded part of the device in the inner or outer circle, so a semicircle is formed;
- turn the protractor 180 degrees, repeat the previous procedure;
- remove the protractor and manually connect the pencil lines to form a circle.
Drawing with a CD and a glass
This method is considered the simplest. It is enough to attach the disk to a sheet of paper and circle it in a circle if a large diameter circle is required. Also, with its help it is easy to depict a small circle, circling the inner hole of the CD. Teachers are categorically against this method, explaining how to draw a circle using other objects at hand.
For example, a glass can also serve as a substitute for a compass. To do this, the bottom or top of the glass is set on a sheet of paper and circle it in a circle. At the same time, the bottom, like the glass itself, should be dry inside, so as not to spoil the picture. Glasses can be replaced with cans of hairspray, deodorant or shaving foam, tracing their bottoms with a pencil.
Seamstress method
To make a pattern of any wardrobe item that requires rounded parts, the seamstresses came up with their own way to draw a circle. To begin with, the radius of the future circle is calculated. For example, when measuring the waist, the result was a number of 600 mm - this is the circumference. To calculate the radius, the school formula is used: the circumference is divided by 2P.
Accordingly, the radius in the example will be 600 / 3.14 * 2 = 100 mm.
Now you need two pencils of the same length. They need to be tied together by a thread so that the distance of the stretched thread between the pencils is 100 mm. One pencil will be a reference. Take the second pencil over the entire length of the thread. While holding the reference, draw a line in a circle with a second pencil.
The main thing is to keep the thread taut. You should independently choose the speed of rotation of the stylus, and fix the paper on a horizontal surface.
The reference pencil can be replaced with a clerical needle.
