Taganrog Metallurgical Plant Public Joint Stock Company is one of the eight leading manufacturers of pipe products in Russia. The main customers are oil, gas, and gas production, transportation, and refining companies. In 2003, the company merged into the holding company “Pipe Metallurgical Company”.
Base
Taganrog Metallurgical Plant was founded on the shores of the Sea of Azov in 1896. The idea of building a large steel mill belonged to Belgian and French industrialists who wanted to expand their sphere of influence in Russia. After receiving permission, they dismantled one of the factories in Liege and recreated it in the city of Taganrog.
The first blast furnace and open-hearth furnace were launched in the summer of 1897, and by the end of September the first products were shipped. Before the revolution, TAGMET was a fairly large steel enterprise. It produced sheet metal, armored steel, ammunition and other products.
Soviet period
In the Civil War, the Taganrog Metallurgical Plant was almost destroyed. In 1922, the Yugostal Trust, which was in charge of the production, decided to dismantle the buildings because of their unsatisfactory condition. However, Felix Dzerzhinsky, who chaired the Supreme Economic Council of the USSR, instructed to restore the enterprise.
In the early 1930s, TAGMET was significantly modernized. A new pipe-rolling section with German equipment was built, in particular, pilgrim two-roll pipe-rolling mills from the Mannesmann company. That's why the workshop was called "Mannesmann".
In the war, the Taganrog Metallurgical Plant was again completely destroyed. Immediately after the liberation, former workers selflessly restored production from scratch. In November 1943, the open-hearth and, later, bandage rolling shops again began to work.
In the 50s, the plant was actively developing. In 1962, a new pipe welding workshop No. 3 was launched. The eighties passed under the sign of the development of new types of products: drill and casing pipes according to new GOSTs. In particular, they were used in a unique project - drilling the deepest well in the world on the Kola Peninsula.
New time
Unlike many enterprises, Taganrog Metallurgical Plant OJSC after the collapse did not stop production output. With the conclusion of partnerships with the Pipe Metallurgical Company in 2003, significant investments were made in production.
In 2006, a machine for continuous casting of billets was launched in the open-hearth workshop. In 2008 - an ultramodern tube-rolling complex, the first in Russia. In 2013, a new electric steel-smelting furnace was launched, designed to replace coal open-hearth furnaces.
Production
Taganrog Metallurgical Plant has a number of unique capabilities. These advantages include developed steel production, fully covering their own needs. The commissioning of the ladle furnace continuous casting plant of the famous Italian engineering firm Danieli ensured the production of the product parameters necessary for the production of hot-deformed seamless tubes of a wide range. This made it possible to master the production of pipe steels with a complex alloying system used in the gas and oil industries, machine building, instrument making, energy, including nuclear, as well as in other sectors of the national economy.
The reconstruction of the pile-cutting workshop, which provides for the installation of new press scissors with an effort of 1000 tons, significantly increased the productivity of the workers of the pile-cutting and open-hearth shops. The modernization of both pipe rolling workshops was carried out. The construction of a new thermal section was carried out, the installation of a reduction-stretching mill of the German engineering company SMS Meer was introduced. The updated thermal section allowed to increase the production of heat-treated pipes for various purposes by 100,000 tons per year.
Products
Taganrog Metallurgical Plant (TAGMET) occupies a leading position in the domestic pipe market in the production of high-tech sleeveless casing pipes with CTT threads, which are in increasing demand among oil industry workers. The company is currently the Russian leader in the development and implementation of modern high-tight threaded joints. In the mid-2000s, new sections of pipe rolling workshops for the production of pipes with Premium class threaded joints were commissioned.
In addition to steel production, TAGMET produces a wide range of pipes:
- hot-deformed seamless;
- casing;
- longitudinal electric welded;
- drill with welded locks;
- specialized;
- profile welded;
- water and gas pipelines;
- tubing;
- for well repair.
Expanding production, improving quality and improving the presentation of products, switching from coal to electricity are the main tasks of the enterprise in the near future.
