How to get a disability?

Today, few of us can boast of good health, and the number of people who are seriously complicated by serious illnesses is growing exponentially. Poor ecology, improper lifestyle, constant stress, disgusting quality of food, disasters, growing number of hereditary diseases - all this is far from a complete list of reasons, "due to" which the number of people with disabilities is growing. What to do if trouble has come into the house, what doors to knock on and how to get a disability are the main questions that most people ask themselves for a medical examination.

It is worth noting that the process of obtaining disability in our country is very similar to running with obstacles, and long distances. On the way there are a lot of barriers, which are sometimes quite difficult to overcome, especially in cases where the patient is not too knowledgeable about the intricacies of the upcoming procedure. Therefore, the question of where and how to get a disability requires close consideration.

In order to register a disability, it is necessary, first of all, to have good reasons (medical indications), according to which the medical institution issues a referral for a medical examination. Disability can only be obtained if there are at least two of the three conditions prescribed by law:

  • a health disorder caused by defects resulting from injuries suffered by diseases, accompanied by a stable disorder of body functions;
  • loss of the patient’s ability to self-service, move around, communicate, navigate, control their behavior, engage in labor activity (that is, a partial or complete restriction of life activities);
  • the emergence of the need for social protection measures, including rehabilitation.

If the above reasons are present, the medical institution or guardianship authorities refer the patient to a medical and social examination (ITU) for examination. When applying to the ITU, you must have all the documents for disability in hand: a passport, application, referral and medical certificates that confirm the fact of a health disorder.

A special commission examines the patient and makes a decision. If the decision is positive, then the experts establish the appropriate disability group and issue a supporting certificate. There are three groups of disabilities: the needy receives the first group for two years, and the second and third for one year. Sick children or adolescents receive the category of “disabled child”, the duration of which depends entirely on the severity of the health disorder (one year, two years, or until the child reaches eighteen years of age).

And what to do and how to get a disability if doctors refused to establish it? In such cases, one must knock to higher authorities of the ITU or go to court with a claim to challenge the decision made by the commission. It is worth noting that the latter option is regarded as the most effective and shortest way to obtain the desired result.

A positive solution to the issue does not mean that now you can once and for all forget about how to get a disability. Every two years, people with disabilities in the first group are required to undergo re-examination, while people with disabilities in the second and third groups are subjected to this procedure annually. Citizens of retirement age, people with disabilities with irreversible anatomical defects, and some other patients who meet the criteria established by law are exempted from re-examination.
