Most people who are not familiar with Japanese animation mistakenly believe that all this was created exclusively for children. In their view, the big-eyed characters of an animation film have absolutely no semantic load and are interesting only to very young children. However, this is not true at the root. Among the anime, there are often very deep and truly “adult” things.
"Even God rests on Sunday," anime
Such masterpieces can be safely attributed to such masterpieces as Ergo Proxy, Trinity Blood or Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi. The latter is particularly interesting. Its English name is The Sunday without god, which in Russian means: "On Sunday even God rests." The name itself already sets the viewer on a deep philosophical and biblical theme and at least a curious plot. The original novel of the same name was published - short stories or short stories in the anime style of authorship by Irie Kimihito. Naturally, short stories with such a plot immediately gained wild popularity among readers. After the light, I saw the eponymous manga (Japanese comics). And after some time, an anime adaptation of director Yuji Kamazawa was also released. In addition to this film, in his track record you can see such masterpieces as Oda Nobunaga’s Ambitions and Welcome to NHK. But Kamazawa's best work is still, "Even God rests on Sunday."

The anime series appeared relatively recently - in 2013, and immediately found itself just wildly popular among the adult population of Japan (and not only). The anime "Sunday at God’s day off" quickly spread throughout almost the whole world and became known even to the Russian public. However, its novelty is noticeable, first of all, with impeccable and somewhat geometric drawing, as well as bright colors. When watching the first series, you immediately feel the inimitable directorial style of Kamazawa. The anime "On Sunday even God rests" refers, rather, to the genre of mystical adventures. It can be seen: the fierce confrontation between the living and the dead, the absence of God or deities, guardians of graves and other attributes of the supernatural. All this makes it clear that in front of the viewer it is mysticism with a touch of adventure, and not any other similar genre. Children, of course, will not understand such a film, therefore it is reasonable to classify it as 14+.

There are not so many episodes here - only twelve, 23 minutes each, and each reveals its own peculiar philosophical problem. Heroes think, reason, communicate and make decisions. The action takes place in a fictional, alternative world, similar in many ways to the real one. For fans and lovers of such animated films, “swallowing” the entire series in a day will not be difficult. Anime can be found immediately in two translation options - with subtitles or in voice acting. The Russian audience was especially lucky - there is a Russian voiced voice, which is very important for many. Sometimes, when watching an anime in a voice acting, a male voice is heard speaking for a female character. This is quite annoying for many. But the anime "Sunday even God rests" will delight the Russian-speaking audience with discordant dialogues.
Plot
The action takes place in a fictional world that was created by God in five days. On the sixth day, as usual, God rested. And on the seventh day, on Sunday, he decided to leave this world forever. As a result, people ceased to be born and die. And it would seem that the world was to wallow in darkness and chaos, but this did not happen. And all because God left a farewell “gift” before his departure. This "gift" was the guardians, who, in turn, would have to bury the walking dead. The main plot of the anime "Sunday is God's day off" revolves just around the same one such keeper - a little village girl Ai. She became the guardian of graves at 7 years old. When she turned 12, a strange man named Khanpuni came to the village. First, Ai takes him for his father, Humpin Hambart. But then, seeing what atrocities Hanpuni does, she decides to kill him. Naturally, a 12-year-old girl could not resist the man. Therefore, after the fight (in which Ay lost), she decides to go with him, despite the difficulties and dangers of the future path.
Race
As mentioned above, the action of the anime "Sunday without God" takes place in a world where there is no God for 15 years. If you subdivide all characters by race, then there are three races in total. The first race is, of course, people. Absolutely ordinary people, as God created them. At the same time, they were able to somehow survive his departure and adapt. The second race is the guardians of the graves. They may seem like people, but they differ from them in incredible strength and power. Their main property is the absence of feelings and emotions (although Ai is a unique exception). They appear from lightnings falling from heaven (again, unlike Ay, which was born from the union of guardians). And the third is the walking dead. It is the guardians who are doing their best to try the dead bodies of light in the graves. Roughly speaking, they are ordinary average zombies. Once upon a time they were people, but death did its job. However, the souls of the walking dead remain attached to their bodies, even though they are already beginning to rot.
Key actors
All in the anime "God rests" 15 characters. In the center is a pair of Ay and her, as she thinks, Khanpuni's father. He comes to the village of Ai to find Hana - the mother of Ai and part-time purebred grave digger.
Khanpuni introduces Ai to another purebred grave digger named Skar. In appearance, she is a very polite girl, but she is completely devoid of any feelings. After the death of Hanpuni Skar, along with Yuri (a childhood friend of Hanpuni) and Ai travels through the villages, after which they all end up in the city of Ortos. Shortly before this, they find in the Chiriko Zubrescu desert, which serves in the government office of Ortos. After Ai, she succeeds in meeting Princess Ortosa - Ulla Eles Hakmatika - and getting into Goran Academy. There is another acquaintance, and already with Alice Kalar. In addition, Ai is watched by Alice's former classmate - Dee Angie Strastmitos. The remaining characters are students of Goran Academy: Tanya Svegdevald, Volres Faren, Hardy, Gigi Totogi, Mimirt and Memelo Gedenburg and Rune Saggitarius.
Is it worth watching?
The question of whether to watch this anime cannot be answered unequivocally. Someone may like it already from the first series. And someone, having looked at the beginning, will not want to look further. To children and adolescents, “Even God rests on Sunday” may seem completely incomprehensible and confusing. But adults will find many interesting points for themselves. Take at least the very beginning of the anime where Ai is just getting to know the strange person Hanpuni. Some hints of mysticism and deep philosophy are already given here. The gloomy village in which only the dead live, suggests some thoughts. Yes, this is the scenery, this is the background, this is the picture. But it is she who characterizes the further development of events. And Ai, who seems to be destroying the dead, has feelings for them, which is uncharacteristic of the guardian of the graves. All the inhabitants of the village are for her the same living people as everyone else. And learning from the shocking truth from Hanping, Ai begins to change.
Conclusion
The quality work of the artist in the anime "God is resting" is visible immediately. First of all, it’s a picture. Landscapes are very naturalistic, high-quality. The faces and silhouettes of the main characters and secondary characters correspond to the canon. Secondly, these are colors. The anime itself is very bright and catchy, which is not particularly characteristic of the mystical plot. Thirdly, the dynamics. Everyone moves fast and smoothly. In emotional terms, all characters are very lively (even guardians). This is confirmed by numerous dialogues and monologues.
Separately, I want to note the music. The theme that is on the screen saver in all series conveys the whole essence of history as well as possible.
In conclusion, I want to say that this anime really wants to watch and revise. Fans of mysticism will surely find something interesting for themselves. Lovers of anime philosophy will surely like it. Even cosplayers will find a character for themselves that can be brought to life. In short, the anime "In Sunday God rests "- a really worthwhile thing.
