An immigrant is a person who, for certain circumstances, is forced to leave his place of permanent residence.
Reasons for Relocation
There are usually several circumstances under which a citizen must make a move, but there can only be one. It is worth remembering that the status of a migrant is granted to a person only when applying to officially registered authorities and only when relevant documents are issued. Living in another country without documents is illegal. So, the reasons for the relocation:
- Religious In some countries or regions, a certain religion may be imposed, if disagreed with which people may have problems - from rejection by society, to imprisonment or deprivation of life.
- Political. This is one of the most popular reasons. A vivid example in the modern world can be some countries. These are internally displaced persons. Ukraine is one of the countries in which there is an immigration of the population for political reasons.
- Language. Harassment of citizens due to linguistic differences.
- National Often this reason is called "racial." This may be due to differences in nationalities. This can be especially vividly illustrated by the example of African-Americans of the 19th-20th centuries in America.
The difference between a refugee and a migrant
You can read more about this in legal documents. There are several of them. The main is the 1951 UN Convention. But, in order not to get confused, it is worth knowing that the most important difference between these two concepts is citizenship.
A refugee is a person who is not a citizen of the country to which he arrived due to various circumstances. An immigrant is, on the contrary, an officially registered citizen of a country, and in some cases a foreign person living in this territory permanently, but for certain circumstances forced to relocate.
Help to immigrants
Every citizen who finds himself in such a difficult life situation should remember that there is a possibility of receiving material assistance from the state, but only once. You can get it by justifying why it is needed. There is no clear list of items for which a cash allowance is issued, but it is worth remembering: a migrant is already a significant enough reason. This is due to the fact that in most cases a person is forced to change the usual course of life - quit work, a house / apartment, social contacts, etc. But there are categories of citizens who are provided with material support quite often. We list them:
- Large families.
- Pensioners who have no relatives and are left alone.
- Persons with disabilities or people who need treatment.
However, assistance to immigrants can be provided not only by state bodies. Quite often there are caring people who are ready to provide both material and moral support. The latter is an important factor when moving, especially forced.
The procedure for obtaining status
For each person who finds himself in this position, the first thing to do is to draw up the necessary status with state authorities at the place of stay. For this, a certain set of documents is collected:
- The first thing you need is a petition. An official form can be obtained from the migration service. This document also provides information confirming that the resettlement was forced.
- The next item is the identity papers. Photos are also needed.
- If possible, documents are provided that carry information about the marriage or its dissolution. Large families enclose appropriate paper.
- You may need documents that indicate in what period of time the previous place of residence was abandoned.
All of the above should be provided strictly in the original, no copies.
Further, a response is expected from government agencies to issue an appropriate status. However, a refusal may come if a suspicion arises of a person’s attempt to escape from the country where the crime was committed. A migrant is a person who has not committed any serious acts. In addition, intentionally false information will also be a cause of failure.
