In 1846, the well-known novel by A. Dumas, “The Countess de Monsoro”, was published. France, however, became the first country to film it. The first film was shot in 1913, but the television series of 1971 became the best version that accurately conveys the historical events mentioned by the writer. It was shot by J. Andrei, and Karin Petersen starred in the title role. There is also a more modern version of the novel filmed in 2008 by Michel Hassan, but it loses much to the previous version.
Intrigues, conspiracies and serious passions around the royal throne
In the second half of the XVI century, during the reign of the weak-willed, capricious and overly religious Henry III, the series “Countess de Monsoro” transferred the viewer. France at that time is not in the best condition. Endowed with great influence, the clan de Guise is preparing a coup, wanting to put on the throne the Duke of Anjou, brother of the king. Henry III is childless, his brother will be crowned already, but the Duke is not opposed to rushing things.
The king surrounds himself with favorites, among which five "minions" stand out as the most active. They are confronted by the four "Anjuans" from the retinue of the brother of the ruler. The most courageous and brilliant among them is the Count de Bussy. Despite the intricacies of court intrigues, the series “Countess de Monsoro” is mainly about the tragic love. France in the sixteenth century was famous for conspiracies against the rulers and the confrontation of various political groups.
The birth of love amid court intrigues
The best fencer from the retinue of the
Duke of Anjou, Count de Bussy, once fought a battle with four royal "minions". The man fought very well, but the forces were unequal, so he was seriously injured. The nobleman lost consciousness, and woke up in an unfamiliar place, where he was assisted. De Bussy only saw the image of a beautiful stranger before him, and then fell into unconsciousness. "Countess de Monsoreau" (France) - a series of great, but
unhappy love. It very clearly shows the personal feelings of the heroes and their influence on the course of historical events.
De Bussy recovered soon. But he cannot find a place for himself, the face of a stranger seen in delirium constantly pops up before his eyes. Worst of all, the man does not even know if this woman is in fact, or if she exists only in his mind and is the fruit of a sick imagination. But then an opportunity presented itself, and de Bussy met his stranger - the Countess de Monsoro.
France - arena of political battles
Not only de Bussy was pleased with the countess. The king’s brother also laid eyes on her. It is he who directs the count close to him to go for the lady he liked so much. De Bussy was waiting for a terrible blow when he in the favorite of the Duke of Anjou recognizes his mysterious stranger. But even this is not the main thing, because in fact the wife of the smug and cruel royal hunter is the Countess de Monsoro.
The film (France in it is reliably depicted and completely conveys the spirit of the 16th century) fully covers political events taking place in that period, and at the same time tells the story of two people in love.
