Nancy Kerrigan is a famous American skater. He is a two-time winner of the Winter Olympics, twice won medals in the World Cup, and also won the US Championship. Due to intrigues in the national team, an attack was made on her, which could affect not only her sports career, but also her health in general.
Biographical data
Kerrigan Nancy was born in 1969 in the small American town of Woburn, Massachusetts. The girl first tried on skates and became on them at 6 years old. Two years later, she began to attend training in figure skating, and at the age of 9 she first won the children's competitions.
The first coach of the future champion was Teresa Martin. When Nancy was 16 years old, her new mentor was Denise Morrisey, who was soon replaced by Mary and Ivy Scotwold. This coaching tandem remained with Kerrigan until the end of her sports career.
In 1987, Kerrigan Nancy loudly declared herself at the junior championship. The 18-year-old skater won only 4th place, but made leading experts in this sport talk about herself. After 4 years, Nancy won bronze at the US Championship. This result allowed her to take part in the World Cup, where Kerrigan again became the third.
At the 90 Olympics in Albertville, the skater showed one of the best programs and deservedly won a bronze medal.
Attack on the athlete
Before the Olympics-94, one of the most high-profile incidents in the history of figure skating occurred. Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding competed for the right to enter the competition from the USA. The latter, wanting to get rid of her rival, became a member of the conspiracy.
Shane Stant was instructed to attack Nancy and break her leg. Finding the athlete in Detroit, the attacker crept up and hit Nancy Kerrigan with a club on the thigh. The attack was so unexpected that no one could stop him.
Fortunately for the athlete, everything turned out to be only a severe injury. This incident provoked a very high-profile scandal in American and world figure skating. Oddly enough, Tonya Harding managed to escape punishment and even performed at the Olympics, where as a result she took only eighth place.
Having missed the US championship due to this injury, the skater nevertheless ended up with her offender in the national team of her country. Kerrigan Nancy managed to completely restore her form and won the silver medal of the Olympics in Lillehammer, losing only to the Ukrainian Oksana Bayul.
Personal life
After completing her sports career, Nancy married her sports agent and gave birth to three children: Matthew, Brian and Nicole. The family lives in the American town of Linfield.
Kerrigan Nancy did not completely part with figure skating. She gladly accepted the invitation to participate in various competitions, such as Ice Wars and Champions on Ice.
The ex-skater led her own sports program, and also acted as a commentator at various competitions. Kerrigan is the author of a textbook on figure skating technique "Artistry on Ice". In 2004, Nancy was inducted into the American Figure Skating Hall.
