Vasiliev Dmitry Vladimirovich was born in Leningrad on December 8, 1962. From an early age, the boy fell in love with sports and devoted a lot of time to training. Loving parents in every possible way supported their son. The boy was fond of skiing. It was a passion for him. Then, by chance, he began to engage in biathlon. And then a new stage began in his life.
The first successful promotions
During the training at the boarding school, I managed to participate in competitions in Murmansk. 15-year-old Dmitry Vasiliev was among the competing skiers. It was then that he was asked to check his own strength in shooting. The biathletes were impressed by the talent of the athlete, who hit almost all targets in the standing and lying position. Upon arrival in Leningrad, the young man received an offer to go to training camp in Sukhumi. Together with other biathletes, he successfully showed his talents.
Over the next few years, there were constant training, competitions, which gave a powerful impetus to career growth. The future star was in the Russian team. Successful performances for DSO Dynamo glorified the guy.
Glory to Dmitry Vasiliev
The young man did not even think that it might be possible to show a good result at the Olympics. The future medalist was happy simply because he would attend such a momentous event.
After receiving the status of Olympic champion, Dmitry Vasiliev, whose photo was decorated with numerous publications, became a star. It was very unexpected for him, because at 18 he took part in skiing, and at 21 he hit the whole world with his achievements. Since then, the champion did not have shooting problems. The word "smear" could not be applied to it.
And victory again!
The composition of the team in individual races showed a disappointing result during the games in Sarajevo. However, the relay was the final stage of the competition. From each team of participants, 4 athletes were nominated. At the first stage, Dmitry Vasiliev was able to break away from his rivals for 1 minute and 7 seconds. The second ran Yuri Kashkarov. In general, he successfully proved himself, as he continued to occupy a leadership position. The third race was made by Algimantas Shalna, who, although he made 2 misses, nevertheless arrived 47 seconds apart from the next team. The latter happened to show their abilities to Bulygin. The lag of 18 seconds was reduced. He came to the finish line first.
The games in Calgary have also been successful. Vasiliev had to run first. His indicators of speed and accuracy enabled the team to get a large margin of time. The victory was again in the hands of the Russian team.
Undisputed Achievements
A distinctive feature of Dmitry among other biathletes is the ability to shoot without a single miss in just 30 seconds. Most need to spend at least 40 seconds. Dmitry Vasiliev, for whom biathlon became life, could become the only Olympic champion in classical and skating.
His achievements were competitions in relay races 4 x 7.5 km, which ended in victory. The Soviet biathlete took first places in the team in 1984, 1986, 1988. Immediately after the first large-scale victory, he received the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR. In 1984 he was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, and in 1988 - the Friendship of Peoples.
Sensations after the Olympics
During his participation in the Games, Dmitry Vasiliev, a biathlete at that time already quite famous, was young and ambitious. At 21, he set specific goals and moved towards their implementation.
The period of the Olympic Games in Sarajevo was difficult. The biathletes participating in the competition were not present at the opening and closing ceremonies. The delegation from Russia included, first of all, officials, figure skating athletes and other elite types. For Dmitry himself, this arrangement was not clear, since biathletes brought gold medals to the overall team standings.
However, despite everything, young and promising athletes were able to show a high class. The victory at the Olympic Games was a well-deserved result of the work done. Years of training and restrictions were not in vain. Each participant proudly announced the new status of the winner.

Dmitry Vasiliev praised the situation as incredibly pleasant and amazing. The Olympic village hosts professionals and coaches of various sports. A huge number of famous people, who were previously seen only on the TV screen, are photographed and signed autographs.
The impressions of the Olympic Games are incomparable for him, but in terms of sports - this is the same component as in any other competition. For athletes, only the psychological aspect matters. Which of the professionals does not pay attention to him, he wins. In many ways, it is the journalists and all this hype about the favorites that is confusing, but our hero stubbornly keeps himself apart from all statements and criticisms. It is this attitude that always helps him win.
And beggar relies black caviar
Dmitry repeatedly recalled and told a story that happened to athletes from Russia at the Olympics. In the common dining room for all participants set up large tables. The buffet made it possible to take food as much as desired. The team was always given cans of black caviar on the road, each holding 2 kilograms.
Once the athletes brought a delicacy to the dining room, sat down at the table and started a meal, and here they noticed bewilderment in the eyes of those around them, since in the majority of representations Russia is a country of beggars. Vasiliev for a long time regretted that there was nothing to photograph such a wonderful moment.
Biathlon is an accident
And now about how our hero became a biathlete. Dmitry Vasiliev was a skier. The situation changed after a poor performance at the holiday of the North. A chance meeting with a friend who was also a skier earlier and soon began to show good results in biathlon, made it possible to try his hand at shooting. With a rifle of a friend, an athlete hit all targets. The coach, learning about the results, offered to professionally engage in biathlon. Dmitry was taken to the Dynamo CS, where only especially gifted athletes could get. Later there was a trip to Sukhumi, where football, shooting, and recreation were held.
Overwhelming career and personal life
After winning gold medals in 1984 and 1988 at the Olympics, Dmitry became world famous. At home, his achievements were appreciated. Vasiliev continued to be an indicative athlete, and in 1999 he became general manager of the Russian Biathlon Union. Labor activity in this status lasted until 2002. In 2009, he was offered to become a member of the Biathlon Union, and since 2011, the athlete headed the Biathlon Sports Federation in St. Petersburg, becoming its president. Career growth, success - everything became possible thanks to the enormous hard work, commitment and support of the family.
