The Illizarov Russian Science Center treats any injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. A special method is applied here. Academician G.A. Ilizarov
The invention of this great scientist overtook the achievements of medicine for several decades. Gavriil Abramovich Ilizarov was born in 1921 in a peasant family. He externally graduated from high school and went to medical school. Since 1944, Ilizarov has been working as a rural doctor in the Kurgan region. He was still interested in the problem of bone tissue regeneration after fractures. And in 1951, during a trip to a patient on a cart, he came up with a method of bone fusion using an original design. He created the prototype of his device from improvised materials - a shank from a shovel and bicycle spokes.
His invention was patented in 1954, and in 1966, a laboratory was created on the basis of the 2nd city hospital in the city of Kurgan to study the problems of transosseous osteosynthesis. In 68, Ilizarov received a doctorate. Thanks to the achievements of the laboratory in accelerating bone tissue regeneration, the Kurgan Research Institute of Experimental Orthopedics and Traumatology was established in 71.
Academician G. A. Ilizarov became the head of the center. He was an extraordinary person, his discoveries helped many people and gave impetus to the development of orthopedics and traumatology. Ilizarov was awarded several medals and prizes, three orders of Lenin. His inventions are known all over the world.
History of the center
Since 1972, the Ilizarov Center in Kurgan has been operating. It was founded on the basis of an experimental laboratory that studied the possibilities of percutaneous osteosynthesis. Ilizarov Method
G. A. Ilizarov (the center, as mentioned above, bears his name) proposed a unique method of treating fractures and pathologies of the musculoskeletal system using the compression-distraction apparatus he created. It was based on the properties of bone tissue to respond to slight stretching by the process of building and regeneration. This method of controlled bone growth is used to treat the effects of injuries and correct various deformations of the musculoskeletal system.
Initially, this method was used to heal fractures. Then G. A Ilizarov noticed that the formation of new bone tissue begins at the site of growth. A feature of the method is the use of a unique apparatus in the form of two or more steel rings connected by rods. Through them and the damaged bone pass the needles, which allow you to fix the bone in the right position for fusion. The device provides the ability to change the position of the rings, slightly stretching the bone. This ensures its building.
