Charity at its core often has real events. So, St. Vladimir’s hospital in Moscow was founded at the expense of a person who built railways in Russia. In our time, this man would be called a business shark; he managed to not only connect the Ryazan and Michurinsk, Kursk and Kiev railways, but also make friends with all the officials of that time, using the state treasury for personal purposes. The name of this man is Pavel Grigoryevich von Derviz.
Best memory of children
Von Derviz has become a fabulously wealthy man in a matter of years. Along with the construction of roads, he organized joint-stock companies, successfully invested in shares and received dividends. The eldest son Vladimir was born. However, the son’s life was short. He died a year after birth from bone tuberculosis. 13 years later, the second son Andrey was born. And the story repeated itself. Neither the best French doctors, nor unlimited capital could save the life of his second son, he was also buried at the age of one.
In memory of the sons of St. Vladimir, the hospital bears the name of the first-born von Derviz. The founder asked the Moscow governor that the hospital should always bear the name of his son, be kept exemplary and have 100 places for free treatment for orphans and children of the poor. All conditions of the donor were fulfilled.
The hospital began accepting children from 0 to 12 years old from August 1, 1876.
Soviet period
At this time, the hospital was renamed, immortalizing the name of the deceased commissar Rusakov, he was a doctor by training.
The change of name did not affect the highest professional level of medical care provided to children.
For 35 long years, an outstanding pediatric surgeon Stanislav Doletsky worked at the hospital. His name is associated with such unique techniques as correction of malformations, emergency surgical aid for infringed hernia of newborns, separation of Siamese twins. Many children born with a cleft face are still operated on according to his technique, which allows you to immediately avoid a cosmetic defect. Also, according to the developed Doletsky methods, extensive birthmarks are eliminated in several stages.
The former name was returned to the hospital in 1991.

The last repair was carried out in 2012 in the thoracic department. The operating units are in good condition, but there is a problem with the wards. They are few, as are the toilets. There are not enough bathtubs and showers, crowding and stuffiness are noted. Parents huddle literally in chairs, steadily enduring household difficulties. But even in these extremely difficult conditions, staff maintains cleanliness, preventing the development of nosocomial infections.
