In the pantheon of movie villains, few are as impressive and unforgettable as Darth Vader. The character, played by David Proe in the original films and voiced by James Earl Jones, has as many unforgettable dialogues as his philosophical enemy Yoda. Here is our summary of Darth Vader 's most famous phrases from the entire saga, including some of his key points. For reference, we focus only on the scenes that occur after Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) falls on the dark side, during which he gets his famous nickname.
6 PLACE. Revenge of the Sith
I can see the lies of the Jedi very well. I am not afraid of the dark side like you. I brought peace, freedom, justice and security to my new empire!
Of course, the performance of Hayden Christensen in the last two films of the trilogy received a lot of criticism. However, this moment in which Anakin / Vader demonstrates how far he has come is still standing out. When Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) is desperate to convince his Padawan and former friend, he discovers that Anakin’s mind is clouded by the lies of Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid), and he believes that his actions served more good.
5th place. "The Empire Strikes Back"
I changed the terms of the contract, pray that I do not change anything else!
The Empire Strikes Back is generally considered the best part of the saga to date. There are many reasons why this can be argued, but perhaps one of the most important is that the film shows how awesome and powerful Darth Vader is.
4th place. "New Hope"
Don't be too proud of the technical advances you built. The ability to destroy the planet is nothing compared to the power of the Force!
Back in 1977, viewers had no idea what to expect from the original film by George Lucas. Thus, the New Hope naturally became the first introduction to the concept of the Force in the world. Mysterious but fascinating lines such as this create uncertainty about the inherent strength of Vader's "ancient religion." And the subsequent strangulation of a high-ranking Imperial officer shows his power and devotion to a philosophy that endows such supernatural powers.
3rd place. The Return of the Jedi
Let me see you with my own eyes ... You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister that you were right.
Throughout the whole picture, Vader is credited with a lot of memorable statements about power and authority, but this quiet, mournful moment still deserves to be included in their number. Rising to protect his son Luke (Mark Hamill) from the Emperor, Vader knows that his death is inevitable, and asks Luke to take off his mask so that he can truly look into his son’s eyes for the first and last time. This is the tragic end of the terrible villain, but Vader’s death, in which he confirms the assertion that he still has good, makes it clear that in a sense he is himself a victim.
2nd place
I was waiting for you, Obi-Wan. Finally we met. When I left you, I was a student. Now I am a master.
When Vader encounters Obi-Wan (Alec Guinness), the audience has no context for their relationship, except for evidence scattered throughout the film. This fateful meeting includes the most egregious references to their common past, without spoiling the revelation of the sequel.
1 place. "The Empire Strikes Back"
No, I'm your father.
Can any other Darth Vader phrase top this list? Of course, we all know about this plot twist now, but in 1980 the audience was shocked that Vader was actually Luke’s father. This is more than just a brilliant turn, it innumerably deepens the emotional stakes in the film, developing relations between characters and creating much greater tension in a rematch between father and son. Just don’t fall into the trap of misquoting the line “Luke, I am your father,” as many often do.
