Every new season, summer residents begin with the collection of garbage and plant debris accumulated on the site (dry branches, unsuitable plants). In this case, each gardener faces a serious question, since on the one hand it is simply impossible to clean the site without making bonfires, and on the other, such an event is prohibited by regulatory rules. In fact, the burning of garbage, twigs, leaves and food waste on the site is allowed, subject to all the rules. Which will be described below.
Household Litter Act
The burning of garbage on the site and other territories that relate to a private house is regulated by paragraph 218 of the Fire Prevention Rules in the territory. Of particular importance to the owner is the last paragraph of the document, since it is in it that describes in detail in which case it is impossible to burn garbage, and when it is possible, but subject to the rules and regulations. To avoid possible problems, you should study the main postulates.
If a summer resident wants to carry out the burning of garbage in the garden or nearby, then for a start he will have to equip a place for this according to the instructions of the Ministry of Emergencies, and then invite the Fire Inspection to himself, which after checking and inspecting the site can make an agreement. Moreover, the site must meet a number of criteria.
When lighting a fire in an open area, it is important to observe the following standards:
- open fire can be bred in a pit, the depth of which is not less than 30 centimeters, and the diameter is not more than a meter;
- fire must be spread at a distance of up to fifty meters from the building, up to 100 meters from the coniferous forest, and also up to 30 m from the deciduous;
- the area where the fire is planned to be burned must be completely cleaned 10 meters from dry grass, branches, chopping residues and other materials that can be burned;
- along the border of the site must necessarily pass a fire strip with a width of at least 40 centimeters;
- the territory should have all the necessary tools and materials that will help in case of fire to quickly put out the fire;
- a person is obliged to control combustion throughout the entire process of garbage disposal and not leave the site until the end of decay.
What to do if a closed container is used
After burning the garbage, the site should be filled with water or covered with sand until the end of decay. If the owner of the summer cottage uses a closed container of non-combustible materials (furnace, barrel and other) when burning waste, then the conditions of burning will be changed:
- the waste container should be installed at a distance of 25 meters from all buildings, from the coniferous forest by 50 meters, and from deciduous - by 15;
- the territory where the garbage barrel is located should be cleared from dry branches, grass and combustible objects at a distance of five meters;
- the fire border in this case is optional;
- near the barrel, it is necessary to put a metal sheet, which can cover the container from above and restrict air access to the fire;
- the owner of the site, which monitors the combustion process, must be next to the source of fire until complete combustion.

It is important to remember that in certain cases there is a complete ban on burning waste and garbage on the site: the presence of peat soil when the fire regime is introduced on the site, with densely strewn coniferous trees, and also if the container in which the garbage is planned to be burned has through burnout. In addition, it is forbidden to burn litter with gusts of wind at a site with a speed of more than 5 meters per second (open fire) and 10 meters per second (when using a barrel).
What penalties exist
Many gardeners who are wondering if it is possible to burn waste on the site are very worried when they learn about large fines. However, not all should pay such large amounts. For example, a simple summer resident, who is an individual, will receive a fine in the amount of 1,000 to 1,500 rubles for violating the basic norms of the law.
An official (for example, the chairman of a cooperative of summer residents) must pay from 6,000 to 15,000 rubles for his mistakes, and a legal entity from 150,000 to 200,000 rubles. The worst case scenario would be for a legal entity.
If the improper behavior of the summer resident during the burning of waste on the site led to harm to the environment, neighbors or other people's property, then just paying a fine is not enough.
A criminal case may even be instituted against such an unscrupulous owner. Of course, even a small fine can seriously affect a personβs budget, therefore it is impossible to bring the situation to a call by the Ministry of Emergencies - it is important to follow the basic rules prescribed in the law.
How to burn garbage
After all possible fines and types of liability have become known, you should deal with the main methods of burning garbage that will help you safely get rid of excess branches, grass and other garbage on the site.
Barrel on the site
Most summer residents in their area use a barrel for burning garbage with their own hands. The barrel should be mechanical with a bottom. To create such a container with your own hands will not be costly, but it will last for several years. Of course, after several years the barrel will burn out and, according to the Ministry of Emergencies, it will be unsuitable for burning anything, but in this case, you can make a new one or purchase it at any time.
Such a structure should be located at a distance of 25 meters from the building and a group of trees, it is not necessary to create a mineralized strip that protects against fire, but some rules will still have to be observed.
How to make a barrel for burning garbage? According to the norms, the bottom of the barrel will have to be cut, and then set it on a recess dug in the ground. You also have to first find a metal cover that can close the barrel and cut off oxygen. For complete safety, a container of water or sand should be placed next to them - they will help to quickly put out the fire if necessary.
The stove for burning garbage in the country
Some do not like a simple barrel because of the unattractive appearance and fragility. In this case, an oven from a barrel for burning garbage is well suited. It is also permitted to use simple steel tanks, metal circles and other materials. Most importantly, the installation used should be airtight and roomy.
The easiest way to create an oven for burning garbage with your own hands, by welding from thick metal sheets a voluminous box, closed with a lid and having a chimney with a basement. Place the structure on brick or block supports, and dig a hole of the required depth under the bottom.
Brick and stone waste incinerator
The stone incinerator is distinguished by its attractive appearance, great functionality, durability, as well as spaciousness. It is impossible to move the finished structure, for this reason it should be installed immediately at the place where the waste will be burned.
If the site already has a stove, for example, in a summer kitchen or a bath, then vegetation can be burned in it, at the same time preparing dinner or heating the house.
Pit creation
If there are no barrels and furnaces on the site, and somehow you need to burn the waste, then the Ministry of Emergencies is advised to create special pits for these purposes:
- move away from buildings and trees at a distance of 50 meters;
- open a hole 100 cm wide and 30 m deep;
- clean the area at a distance of 10 meters in each direction from the dug hole (it is important to remove dry grass, logging residues);
- then a fire strip 40 cm wide is laid along the edge of the cleared area (remove the sod and fill it with sand);
- prepare all the necessary tools, as well as water for emergency fire extinguishing.
Of course, such a method will seem to many to be very laborious and complicated. It is also complicated by the fact that on the garden site it is difficult to find a place where nothing grows and there is no building. To save space, some negotiate with their neighbors and jointly organize a pit into the wasteland.
The main advantages and disadvantages of the barrel barrel
Any garden waste incinerator has both advantages and obvious disadvantages. The main advantages of this design include:
- barrel barrels have good mobility, because of which they can be easily moved around the site;
- give the opportunity to burn waste without using open flame;
- allowed to monitor the power of fire.
What are the disadvantages of using a metal barrel
The main disadvantages include:
- regular exposure to structures of high temperature, which leads to its rapid wear;
- the use of barrels-stoves even in private areas is prohibited by law, therefore, their constant use as a result may lead to a fine;
- this method of burning waste is not considered environmentally friendly, and is also dangerous if we talk about the risk of fire.
Purchase of finished construction
In stores with garden tools, you can easily find ready-made options for an incinerator for burning garbage on the site, which will help to ensure the maximum safety indicator.
By their design and functionality, all finished devices look like home-made stoves consisting of barrels. Many manufacturers mount chimneys on their stoves that help significantly speed up the process of burning waste and vegetation.
Containers of this type provide a fast burning rate of waste (with the oven lid closed). The main advantage of the product from the store compared to the homemade one is high fire safety and an aesthetic appearance. The main drawback of many users include their expensive cost.
Burning garbage in a barrel is the easiest and fastest method to eliminate all unnecessary vegetation and garbage from the site. But each owner must use it at his own peril and risk, remembering responsibility for the possible consequences. Substances formed during combustion adversely affect the environment.
For reasons of fire and environmental safety, the Ministry of Emergencies prohibits burning garbage on the site, but the gardener must choose the method of waste management. At the same time, he must remember the law and equip his site in compliance with all the basic rules that will help to avoid disastrous consequences. When creating a barrel with your own hands, it is important to remember that after some time the design will become unusable and will have to be re-created.
