Aircraft model IL-114 is a family that is designed for local airlines. The first flight took place in 1991. It has been used in Russia since 2001. It will be about one of these aircraft - the Il-114-300. The characteristics of the liner are quite adequate, however, its history evokes sadness. It was forgotten a long time ago, when suddenly in 2014 data with drawings were taken from the archives, and the described aircraft received a well-deserved “new” life.
Reasons to start assembly in our time
The issue of launching the production of IL-114 was raised in 2014 at a meeting of the government of the Russian Federation. This discussion became relevant due to the fact that it was impossible to use the An-148 airliner without cooperation with Ukraine for passenger flights. Assembling a regional aircraft solved all the nuances that arose.
Is this plane needed?
In mid-June 2014, a proposal was put forward in the Samara region for the first time to resume mass production of the Il-114-300 aircraft. The government pledged to consider this idea before the start of autumn.
In order to understand whether this proposal is rational, requests were sent to the airlines (both private and state), as well as to the Ministry of Defense. At the end of August of the same year, one of the representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade made a loud statement that it was unprofitable to use the Il-114 aircraft at least.
Everyone to whom the request was sent answered unanimously: this liner is not in the queue for the purchase, and all the emphasis is on the IL-112. There is a possibility that in 2020, however, the need for IL-114 will increase. A statement was made that, most likely, about 50 pieces of equipment, with a capacity of up to 60 people, and 20 ships with 85 seats will be purchased.
The government’s statement emphasized that over time the need for air transport increases, which makes it possible to use the aircraft described later. Aviation is important for parts of the country such as the High North and surrounding areas.
The existing fleet has a little less than 3 thousand airliners on its account, of which 298 are regional in total. The Il-114 was supposed to replace Tu-134, An-24 and Yak-40. In total there are about 300 of them. That is, they will require replacement in the near future, which is critical.
In connection with this course of events in 2014, it was nevertheless decided to resume the assembly of the Il-114.
Modification of the IL-114-300
The characteristics of this model are slightly different from the original ones. The engine was improved and some technical data changed, but first things first.
In early 2015, it was decided to resume assembly of the aircraft. Already then, approximate characteristics of the liner were published. At a load of 1 ton, the flight range of the aircraft does not exceed 4800 km. The fuel reserve would be enough for 5600 km, while about 550 kg is consumed per hour.
In the presented business plan, the IL-114-300 turboprop aircraft was compared with other types of airliners. We are talking about competitors ATR-72, Q-400 and An-140. The flight ranges of these ships are the same. In other indicators, the described aircraft is many times superior to existing airliners.
According to the director of Aviakor, in 2025, 24 cars should be produced. For 2018 and 2019 the company is required to develop and assemble the first production aircraft.
The layout of the IL-114-300 was introduced two years ago in the summer. It was suggested that until 2020, some aircraft of this series will have a ski-wheeled chassis. This will help solve the problem of scientists flying between stations in Antarctica and Russia. Currently, the Federation is using purchased equipment from Canada.
Around the same time, resource tests of the aircraft were conducted. He is able to withstand about 30 thousand flights, 20 years of work and an average of 30 thousand hours.
Already at the end of the summer of 2015, it turned out that the liner would not be assembled at the Aviakor plant. In order to produce the Il-114-300 aircraft, it is necessary to completely re-equip the conveyor, which will require more than 19 billion rubles. The state does not have such funds, so the assembly at the Samara plant was canceled.
You can see that Yuri Slyusar, who spoke out against the creation of this aircraft, radically changed his mind. He said that the assembly is expected to be carried out in Kazan, Voronezh, Ulyanovsk and Nizhny Novgorod. Moreover, he expressed the need to operate the liner, because it is perfect for both commercial purposes and the Russian Ministry of Defense. In the fall of 2015, the final decision was made - the assembly is planned to be carried out in Nizhny Novgorod at the Sokol plant.
Engine model
The IL-114-300 aircraft received the engine of the TV7-117C model. But, it is worth noting that there were quite a few complaints in his direction. What are they connected with? The unit is considered unreliable, it must be serviced for a long time in the service, and repairs are too expensive. Due to the fact that the aircraft were not in operation for too long, they had to hire specialists to replace worn parts. In connection with the crisis, in 2010 the airline closed, which mainly operated the IL-114-300.
Just because of problems with the engine in 1993 there was a crash. Having reached 45 meters after takeoff, the liner began to decline sharply, then it collided with the ground and caught fire. Due to the fact that time was disastrously short, the crew did not have time to make the right decision.
Due to such a defect in the engine, its manufacturer quickly eliminated weak points and strengthened the turbines. After testing the aircraft, the power unit showed its best side. Fuel consumption decreased to 19 kg per 1 km.
An already modified engine clearly shows its advantages. It is assembled in such a way that in case of breakdown of any part, it can be urgently replaced by a new worker in a short time. Repair and maintenance is much cheaper and does not take a long period of time.
Consider its main characteristics. The engine was created to reduce the cost of the aircraft in which it is used, to increase reliability and reduce the total mass of the liner. While in take-off mode, the power unit gives a capacity of about 2.5 thousand horsepower, at cruising - this figure is 1.8 thousand. When working in the first embodiment, the fuel consumption per hour is 200 liters. sec., in cruising mode - 180 g / hp.h.
Modifications to Modification 300
The Il-114-300 aircraft, the description of which is given in the article, received better stability, lower landing speed and improved performance during direct landing. This ensures increased arrival comfort.
Moreover, it was decided to change the engine that will be installed on this liner. The plans include the use on the basic version of the already described unit, and on its modification CM. It is characterized by greater thrust, as well as improved performance takeoff characteristics.
In the near future, a new engine improvement may appear, which will be put on the 114-300 aircraft. This will reduce the size of the runway. At the moment, for maximum weight, the indicator is almost 2 thousand m. When using this power unit, this figure will drop to 300 m.
When assembling a new Il-114-300 aircraft, the mass production of which will begin in the next three to four years, the entire power supply system, wires, cables, as well as the control system will be replaced. In order for the crew to be able to fulfill all their duties, the aircraft will receive a flight-navigation system in digital format. This will allow both landing and take-off of the vehicle under the weather conditions of the second category of ICAO. Five LCD displays will be installed. Multiple changes will be received and the interior of the IL-114-300.
