If we talk about cartoons in 2001, Shrek comes to mind immediately. And there is nothing strange about it. The picture received a lot of enthusiastic reviews, collected a large sum at the box office, and was awarded many prizes, including an Oscar in the category of best animated films. A huge kaleidoscope of the most motley characters of European fairy tales contributed to this. Who is Shrek - Troll or Orc, or maybe ogre? All these concepts ultimately mean almost the same thing, referring us to the myths of Western Europe.
"This is my swamp!"
This is a famous phrase that has become a cult, especially on the Internet. Its origins lie deep in the thicket of the forest, right at the giant’s dwelling. History tells us about this same monster. Shrek is a large ogre of green color with ears in a tube on the crown of the head. The main character lives in a swamp, which he sincerely considers his home, and does not want to part with it. People are afraid of him and consider Shrek a cannibal, which only suits him. But the ogre’s plans to lead a lonely and carefree life fall to pieces when the ruler of the local kingdom, Lord Farquhad (a terribly harmful and small character) refers all the mythical and magical heroes to the swamp of the giant. Shrek wants justice and goes to the evil lord.
At the same time, Farquad is going to become king, but according to the canons of the fairy-tale world, for this he needs to find a wife for himself, who in the future should become his queen. In his search, he is helped by a fairy tale mirror, which was found in the fairy tale "Snow White". To choose the Lord, the mirror shows three beautiful princesses: Snow White herself, Cinderella and Fiona. The Lord cannot be determined, and after voting by the court husbands, Farquad chooses the third. The mirror says that the path to it is quite difficult. As in many European fairy tales, Princess Fiona lives on top of a tall tower, guarded by a lava moat and a huge fire-breathing dragon. Also, the beautiful lady every night turns into a terrible ogre, about which the ruler never found out, because he went to arrange a tournament. His goal is to select candidates who could do all the dirty work: to find and bring Fiona down the aisle. At the beginning of the fights, Shrek appears in the company of the speaking donkey rescued by him. The giant wants to come to an agreement, and they agree with the lord: if the ogre can win the tournament and bring the princess, then he will return the swamp to Shrek. Without thinking twice, at the sight of crossbows, Shrek agrees.
Princess Rescue
As expected, Shrek completed this task, thereby proving that he is worthy to rescue the beautiful Fiona. Together with the Donkey, Shrek goes on a journey. Heroes pass fields, mountains, during which they communicate, and Shrek makes several famous quotes. Going up to the rocks, behind which there was already a ditch with lava, and a little further the princess’s tower, the donkey asked if Shrek had ruined the air, to which he replied: “If it were me, then you would die.”
Heroes penetrate the castle, overcoming a lava obstacle. Inside, they see many skeletons of dragon knights killed by a dragon. Shrek goes to the tower, and the Donkey at this time falls into the treasury, where the dragon sleeps. When the giant finds the princess, he sees that the girl is sleeping. This Shrek does not consider the problem and begins to shake it with his strong hands, which is why the princess is indignant. Together, they want to leave the ill-fated tower, but before that, the hero still wants to save, albeit a tired, but still a friend. The dragon turns out to be a dragoness, and she is seduced by the Donkey. Having got out of her paws, the three of us already leave the territory of the castle.

On the road there are many interesting events. We learn that Fiona has a beautiful voice, literally birdlike - she wins the competition with the jay, and her opponent is trying so hard that it explodes due to overstrain of the vocal cords. In the final starting point, the heroes eat fried rats. We see that between the ogre and the princess there is a love spark. But because of his rudeness, Fiona leaves the ogre at dawn. Shrek didn’t just leave it and went to the wedding ceremony, which he safely interrupted and married the princess himself.
