Victor Ageev: athlete biography

In Soviet times, close attention was paid to physical education and sports. It's no secret that in those days in the Union there simply did not exist such a thing as a professional athlete. Nevertheless, for all the years of the existence of the communist system, the world has recognized many boxers who have proved with their achievements that it is not the name that colors a person, but his industriousness, zeal, and to some extent talent. We will talk about one of these β€œdiamonds” in this article. The name of this person is Victor Ageev.

The birth and childhood of an athlete

The future champion was born on July 7, 1941 in Moscow. It is worth noting that in his youth, Viktor Ageev was a rather hooligan guy and was considered a thunderstorm in many courtyards of the city. However, at the age of 13, his life brought him to a wonderful person - Vadim Frolovich Konkov, who was able to captivate the guy with boxing and took him under his coaching care.

Trainings and performances

Konkov was an outstanding mentor. It was largely thanks to him that Viktor Ageev was able to become the champion of the capital, and somewhat later - the entire Union (and four times). In 1960, the boxer launched his victorious series of 34 international matches. In 1965 and 1967 he was able to become the champion of Europe.

Prison term

In 1968, the sports star Ageeva went out. This is due to the fact that he was expelled from the team and deprived of the title of master of sports. The blame for everything is the drunken brawl that took place near the Metropol restaurant.

But even such a situation did not change the attitude to the life of a talented boxer. Three years later, Viktor Ageev again becomes involved in a criminal situation that did not allow him to end up at the Olympic Games in Mexico City. This time, the athlete beat a police officer, for which he earned a criminal record, which, however, is not surprising, since the victim had the rank of captain. At the same time, the Interior Ministry officer received quite serious injuries: concussion and a broken nose.

In prison, the former European boxing champion was also not an exemplary prisoner. He managed to earn another term. And it happened as follows. While serving his sentence, Ageev received a message that his father had died. Victor turned to the prison authorities with a request to release him to the funeral, but as a result received a negative answer, and left the prison without permission. In order to somehow minimize the punishment for this misconduct, Viktor Petrovich Ageev tried to simulate a head injury in order to go to the hospital, and not to be back on the bunk. But the fate of the villain here set him up as well: the investigator who conducted his case turned out to be a fighter in the past, who failed to achieve any significant heights in sports. It was he who promoted the case in such a way that Ageev again received a term.

In addition, while in prison, Viktor Ageev repeatedly found himself on the verge of life and death: he was beaten with tire-racks, tried to crush him to death in a "funnel" filled with people, and once he nearly died from hypothermia.

Unfortunately, the criminal record closed the road to Moscow for the former athlete - his residence permit in the capital was canceled. But, using his connections, he still managed to get the coveted stamp in his passport, which confirmed the right to reside in Belokamennaya.

So, once he personally poured champagne to his athletes and allowed to drink. And when the guys took the contents of the glasses inside, the mentor began to mercilessly beat them.
