How it all began?

Sergey Shirogorov was born in 1973, received his education and a diploma of design engineer. Igor Shirogorov was born in 1978, he graduated from the university with a degree in machine tool operator.

Sergei Shirogorov said that he made his first knife while still at school. It was a knife for a point of pencils, and the materials for its creation were a hacksaw and a canvas. He later became interested in Rambo blades. And with the advent of folding Swiss knives in the country, I really fell in love with them. Unfortunately, it was difficult to purchase such an accessory in those years because of the high cost. Swiss Sergey was replaced by an ordinary Soviet multifunctional knife, which the young man had modified so much in two years that it was impossible to recognize him, but this was a unique experiment in creating a high-quality knife structure.

Over time, the hobby grew into a business, which Igor joined in 2005. The workshop moved from the apartment first to the garage, and then to the spacious production room, where other employees began to take over. Some of them still work in the workshop.

Today it is a unique company for the production of folding knives, located in the Russian city of Yaroslavl, which managed to enter the world market and compete with other enterprises.

Varieties

Shirogorov knives are presented in numerous modifications. The most popular are few. They will be discussed.

Flipper. Its parameters:

The origin of the name of this Shirogorov knife is interesting. Tabargan is a quick marmot rodent with powerful jaws. For these qualities, the animal master gave the name to his product.

"111". Characteristics:

• blade - 111 mm;
• its width is 30 mm;
• weight - 160-168 grams;
• lock - Liner-lock.

Shirogorov’s knife “111th” received its name along the length of the blade. By design, it strongly resembles a flipper. The model is released relatively recently - since 2011.

Stages of production development

The workshop developed gradually, in the following sequence:

1. The first Shirogorov knives were made manually using machine tools of a simple device.
2. Then, some parts were cut using a laser and waterjet cutting. There were "Tabargan" and "Dertnik." Lining made of expensive wood. Steel was taken domestic, to order used damask.
3. Later, a machine with numerical control was introduced. This made it possible to produce parts with maximum accuracy, which ensured the appearance of products having complex handles.
4. Then, imported steels and plastics entered the market, so titanium bolsters, spacer sleeves, carbon fiber linings and G10 appeared in the products. But the tree was also used in the Shirogorov’s knives.
5. The next step is volumetric modeling, due to which the product handles have become three-dimensional.
6. With the move to a spacious room and the acquisition of a wire erosive machine, liners and frames began to be cut. The models Dark and Nura have been created. Later, the Shirogorov knife with a fin, the so-called flipper, was invented.
