Homer Simpson: character description, characteristics, photos

Homer Simpson is a widely recognized character who has secured a very specific and charismatic image that captivates with its simplicity. Oddly enough, the protagonist, who was originally just a draft of the author in anticipation of a meeting, turned into a business card of the future series "The Simpsons" and quickly gained static characteristics that effectively distinguish him from most characters from competing projects.

Despite the concentration of negative qualities in Homer Sipson, he remains loved and respected. The creator laid in his image a kind of message that is easily recognizable and understood not only in the West, but also in the East. The article will tell about how the hero developed, show a photo of Homer Simpson and how he was originally.

Extracts from the history of creation

Matt Groening admitted that he created Homer in anticipation of a meeting with James L. Brooks, trying to demonstrate his sketches to him. Sketches were to his liking, after which the whole Simpsons family appeared on the Tracy Ullman show in the evening in a sketch called Good Night. In 1989, the project received funding and a card blanche from the FOX television channel; on December 19, the series became original. Matt Groening did not think about what kind of a hero would be in the end. Homer Simpson was supposed to be another comedic role, but turned into a beloved public protagonist. Gradually, in order not to injure fans, his image changed from superficial to deeper, thoughtful. So, for example, an actor voicing Homer Simpson named Dan Castellanet in the first seasons presented the image of the protagonist with a very frivolous baritone, but later made him more emotional and lively.

Character development

In each episode, Homer Simpson completes the dart story in Marg. Few people remember, but before this was not so. Until 2001-2002, the hero went to sunset with his wife on bicycles. This change was not accidental, since Homer Simpson was originally supposed to be just frivolous and rustic, but not a "pig." According to the creator of the hero, in the 3-4 season the protagonist turned into a "boorish, narcissistic donkey" who completely neglects any obligations. In addition, Mr. Groening noted that at the studio most authors prefer to work with Homer, and many of his adventures occurred with real people. Even the name of the hero is a reference to the father of its creator. However, in reality Homer "Simpson" is the exact opposite of the cartoonish prototype, speaking as a serious family man.

Appearance and interesting facts

The appearance of the hero gradually transformed. In the first seasons, Homer's stubble was similar in drawing to the one that was done, for example, by the famous clown. In addition, in the early sketches it is easy to notice the initials of the creator of the hero. In Homer's hair one could see "M", and in the auricle - "G". Mr. Groening claims that the first drafts of Homer needed to be finalized, but the studio took them as they were, causing the artist to be ashamed of the unfinished work.

Homer Simpson for the most part looks like a regular clerk. He prefers white polo, blue jeans of the same brand and gray shoes. The hero has an incomprehensible love for a specific model of trousers, buying only them. There are some fun moments in the series about how Homer laments the lack of a fresh pair of favorite pants. He is sloppy, so the hero's polo is constantly getting dirty. In addition, he is obese, bald and not shaved, which, however, does not bother Homer himself.

Personality and character traits

It is difficult to determine which character traits prevail in the image of Homer most of all. It is a cumulative image of a cliche on the "ordinary American hard worker." Homer is sloppy, rude, incompetent and completely passive. In addition, he is incredibly simple-minded and lazy, which often puts him in a difficult position.

From some series it becomes clear that he was not like that before, especially when he was fond of music. It is entirely possible that the creator wanted to show how a person is transformed in an unloved job and under the pressure of circumstances. Despite all his flaws, Homer often proves to Marg how much he loves her. When she just wanted to go to college, the protagonist went to work at a nuclear power plant, abandoning a hobby. He often sacrificed his own hobbies, as a result of becoming passive and lethargic.

Family bonds

Homer Simpson is the first and only child of the couple Abraham and Mona Simpson. Being already in adulthood, the protagonist inspects his elderly father, remembers little about his mother. It was Abraham who devoted most of his life to raising Homer, trying to instill in him honesty and decency. In his youth, the protagonist met with Marg, whom he is still married to. The couple have three children - Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Fans puzzle over who the third child of the family will go to. Presumably, Bart inherited the character traits of his father, Lisa - his mother. The hero did not have a very good relationship with the firstborn, but Lisa tries to love her father without regard to his shortcomings. Bart himself to Homer Simpson is more likely to neglect than hatred, although they often try to establish a relationship.

Work and society

Homer spent most of his life at Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. He does not like this work and treats it with frank neglect. His boss does not know Homer by sight, while the protagonist himself often just sleeps at his remote control, and if he does, it almost always leads to disaster. In his early years, Homer was fond of music, now he abandoned this business. Despite his licentiousness in relation to the profession, when the union tries to lure workers, including Homer, to another object, the director lures them back with delicious donuts, to which the character has a reverent love.

In society, Homer is known as a rowdy, a binge and a boor. Few people respect the hero, outside the bar "At Mo" he has no friends and comrades. Homer himself doesn’t care much because he considers his life to be quite worthy. In his image, one can often see satire and an allegory for many real prototypes that work for the “donuts and TV with beer,” which has made it relevant for the past 20 years.
