Domestic filmmakers filmed the famous story three times. The first film was shot in 1936. After more than half a century, a five-part film based on the work of Pushkin was released. In 2014, the premiere of another film adaptation of the novel "Dubrovsky" took place. Actors and roles in these films are the topic of the article.

The story of the noble robber inspired Vyacheslav Nikiforov. He made a film, which is by far the best adaptation of the Dubrovsky novel. The film (1988), whose actors at the time of filming were little known to viewers, is an extended version of Pushkin's story. The picture received positive reviews. But few people know that the Nikiforov film was not the first attempt to transfer the famous plot of the Dubrovsky novel to the screen.

The actors who played in this picture are Boris Livanov, Galina Grigoryeva, Nikolai Monakhov, Vladimir Gardin. The film is directed by Alexander Ivanovsky, the creator of the comedy Tamer of the Tigers. In the thirties, censorship was extremely harsh. At the insistence of Stalin, the scriptwriter changed the denouement of all known history. So, in the film of Ivanovsky, Dubrovsky died. The robbers after the death of their leader got even with the tyrant Troekurov. Apparently, Stalin was not impressed by the nobility of Dubrovsky, who had forgiven his sworn enemy only because he was the father of his beloved girl.

In 1988, the series premiered with Mikhail Efremov in the title role. In the filmography of the actor, the offspring of the famous family, there were already four works by that time. Maria Troekurova in this film was played by aspiring actress Marina Zudina. The film could not leave the audience indifferent, if only because the heroes of the Pushkin tragedy were played by the stars of Russian cinema: Kirill Lavrov, Vladimir Samoilov, Victor Pavlov, Anatoly Romashin.

The plot of the book is transferred to the two thousandth years. Vladimir Dubrovsky is a lawyer. But when he finds out about Troyekurov’s fraud, which subsequently goes bankrupt, and then after deep emotions, Andrei Gavrilovich dies, he does not try to prove the illegality of his enemy’s actions in court, but goes with the villagers to the forest. So did the hero of the literary source. But, given the fact that in the modern interpretation Dubrovsky is a successful lawyer, such actions may seem implausible.

Aides Dubrovsky, meanwhile, riot in the vicinity of the possessions of Troekurov. In the end, he explains to Masha, admits that he is not Deforge at all and disappears. According to the reviews of the audience, this film adaptation of the immortal work of Pushkin is not successful. But the script is well-written dialogue, and, despite the tragic plot, there is a slight humor.

"Eagle"

In 1925, American filmmakers created a film based on the work of Dubrovsky. Black and white movie actors are forgotten today. With the exception of Rudolfo Valentino, the lead actor.

This film adaptation is free. The plot also contains Cossacks who appeared from nowhere, and even Catherine the Great. Residents of neighboring villages call the protagonist the “Black Eagle”, because he performs his noble deeds in a black mask. It is noteworthy that the main character leaves the service not because of the illness of his father, but because of the empress's persecution. The end of the film is certainly happy: Dubrovsky marries Masha and leaves Russia.
