Volunteer movement in schools and universities of Russia began to develop on a large scale at the end of the 80s of the last century. If you delve deeper into history, then the origins of volunteering can be found earlier - in the postwar years, there were various services of mercy, a society for the protection of monuments and nature. There were both Timurovites and pioneers.
Relevance of the issue
In the modern world, the concept of "volunteer" has a new meaning. The tasks of movement, goals, motivation have changed. If earlier, in the 80s of the last century, people went to BAM or to raise virgin soil, then they were paid a salary - a kind of compensation for hard work. As for free work on subbotniks, in fields, etc., more often it was associated with social coercion.
Today, volunteers are irreplaceable people. In the modern world there are many social problems in the solution of which they help. The volunteer movement is actively developing; volunteers appear, ready to spend their time and energy for the benefit of society.
Normative base
The legal definition of the term “volunteer” is enshrined in article 5 of 135-FZ. According to the norm, they are called a citizen who carries out charity work in the form of gratuitous work in favor and in the interests of the recipient. The latter can be a specific person or an organization.
The word "volunteer" has a synonym - "volunteer". Sometimes these people are called freelance employees, public assistants, assistants, intermediaries, etc. All volunteers have one thing in common - voluntariness. For these people, money is not motivation.
Areas of activity
Volunteer initiatives can extend to virtually any area of life. The main directions of the volunteer movement in the school, for example, are:
- Work with socially unprotected categories of citizens (elderly, disabled, orphans).
- Development of projects that promote social tolerance.
- Help with cleaning the area.
Volunteer associations can participate in resolving conflicts, activating the population in the countryside, etc. Volunteers constantly take part in political processes and monitor the social situation.
Principles
The volunteer movement in the school, as, in fact, in any other institution, should be based on:
- The desire to help those in need.
- Legality. The activities of volunteers cannot be in conflict with the rule of law - you cannot help by breaking the law.
- The desire to share experiences.
- Good faith.
Anyone can become a volunteer - regardless of age, gender, or other circumstances. Therefore, not only children but also adults can participate in the volunteer movement in the school. Moreover, teachers will set an example for children through their actions.
Difficulties
Unfortunately, there are many stereotypes that hinder the wide spread of the volunteer movement. In schools, kindergartens, and other educational institutions, explanatory work is necessary. Volunteering should be approved by the majority of the population.
One of the main tasks of modern charitable organizations is the promotion of voluntary assistance. Today it is extremely important to promote the ideas of selfless help. This is the only way to create a positive image of a volunteer.
State involvement
The current year 2018 was declared the year of the volunteer. This was stated by President Putin himself in December 2017. At the highest level, a program of the year of the volunteer was developed, the implementation of which is aimed at:
- Promotion of volunteerism.
- Improving the prestige of volunteer work.
- Stimulation of the general civil initiatives of compatriots.
The developers of the program hoped that an integrated approach would provide a kind of impetus to the voluntary movement and it could get a higher status.
School Volunteer Program
Today, educational institutions are actively joining the work of volunteer associations. In educational institutions, universities create volunteer teams. They are assigned specific tasks, coordinators and leaders are appointed.
It must be said, however, that in the work of volunteers, as in any other activity, competent organization is important. The volunteer movement in the school begins with the development of the program. It reflects key aspects of the work, participants, tasks, results.
The goal of the volunteer movement in the school is to create conditions for the involvement of students who have reached the age of 14 in volunteering. Tasks can be related to solving a variety of problems, for example:
- Promoting a healthy lifestyle among teens.
- Prevention of neglect, homelessness, child crime.
- Development of the creative potential of children.
Among the expected results may be:
- Reducing the number of factors leading to the use of alcoholic beverages, smoking.
- Building an understanding of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
- Competent organization of children's leisure.
- Creation of creative circles, sections, associations, involving the maximum number of teenagers in them.
- Involving children in socially useful activities.
Volunteer movement at school: work plan
Undoubtedly, the volunteers must face feasible tasks. For this, it is necessary to structure them and fix them in the Regulation on volunteer movement. The school can work several volunteer groups in different directions. For example, these may be units:
- "Mercy". The children who are part of such a detachment provide assistance to people with disabilities, the elderly, veterans, and carry out the St. George Ribbon, Good Deeds for Teachers, etc.
- "Health". The members of this detachment participate in organizing competitions, creating sports grounds in the city, and promote the benefits of classes in sports sections. High school students can take the initiative and form a school team for volleyball, basketball, etc.
- "Creation". The members of this detachment organize holidays and evenings, concerts for memorable dates. You can create an amateur ensemble, a theater studio.
- "Ecology". Volunteers of this detachment participate in the improvement of the territory. At the same time, you can take care not only of the site adjacent to the school, but also of the park, square, embankment, etc. Especially a lot of work for the environmental team in the fall and late winter.
Results and analysis
As a rule, the results of volunteers are summarized at the end of the year. If the work of the units was organized correctly, there was a competent coordinator, then the success of the project was ensured. The main results should be:
- increase in the number of participants in the volunteer movement;
- creation of sections and circles for a large number of children;
- participation in city, district events (competitions, festivals, etc.);
- popularization and development of the volunteer movement.
At school, teachers need to engage not only in teaching, but also in the education of adolescents. In carrying out the second task, the volunteer movement will also contribute. Participation in it helps children change not only internally, but also externally. Students gain self-confidence, become sensitive, attentive to the problems of others.
At the end of each year, a report on the volunteer movement is compiled. It is advisable to make a special stand at the school, which will reflect the results of volunteer work.
Volunteering in Russia: current trends
Since 1998, the World4U association has been operating in the Russian Federation. This association participates in the implementation of student exchange programs, assists in providing youth with air tickets. World4U is a member of the Peace Movement, a partner of many other volunteer organizations.
A volunteer group “Donors to Children” is working in the capital. This association does not have a mandatory membership; its composition is constantly changing. Members of the group organize campaigns, children's competitions, trips for children and their parents to theaters, as well as fundraising for the search for donors and medicines. Often, volunteers come to hospitals just to play with children, chat with parents.
In 2002, with the assistance of the Research Institute of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology RONTs RAME them. N. N. Blokhin at the initiative of citizens, including foreigners, the Nastenka Foundation was created. The purpose of this association is to assist in improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment of children with cancer, to help their families.
The Otkazniki.Ru association also operates in Russia. It provides assistance to children who are forced to stay in a hospital throughout their childhood. Each medical institution has its own curator. The project has its own website - a platform for raising funds. Volunteer association collects things for children, food, money, in general, everything necessary. The list of hospitals is constantly updated on the site. The association is always open to all who wish to help.
In Russia, the volunteer group Peace in the Hands also operates. This is a non-profit voluntary association that supports social institutions working with children.
Ecological associations
One of the most famous volunteer groups is Greenpeace. Anyone can become a member. The work of this association is related to the implementation of environmental projects. Participants oppose industrial construction, tree felling. Greenpeace workers conduct outreach in different cities. You can join the movement by coming to the organization’s offices in major cities or registering on the site. Many members of the association create their own environmental projects. In almost every region of Russia, you can join the “Revive our forest” group. In many cities, volunteer squads are involved in garbage collection, promoting energy-saving technologies.
Conclusion
Despite the fact that the volunteer movement has existed for a long time, only in the last few years it began to gain momentum. The active development of voluntary activity is facilitated by large-scale outreach to the population. In addition, the participation of top officials of the state is of great importance. As you know, the president of the country actively supports all projects aimed at protecting nature, supporting people in difficult life situations. A number of documents were adopted in the State Duma, fixing the order and the grounds for providing assistance to needy citizens.

Of course, you cannot force a person to engage in voluntary and selfless activities. He himself must want to be a volunteer. Some people engage in voluntary activities so that others mark their merits. But such units. Most volunteers do not expect gratitude from anyone. They do things according to the will of their heart, demanding nothing in return. The more such people there are, the better for society and for the country. Volunteers are people who understand their responsibility. They are driven by a desire to change their lives for the better. It certainly deserves respect. There should be more such people in the country. They show by their own example how you can make a difference for the better, how you can help other people.
The state needs to provide all kinds of support to the volunteer movement. After all, not a single large event can do without volunteers today. An example of this is the Olympics in Sochi. A huge number of volunteers participated in her organization.
Of course, the volunteer movement is a necessary link in any modern society. Today it is necessary to continue its popularization. You need to start with the involvement of students. Volunteer squads in educational institutions have long ceased to be a rarity. The work of such groups has a beneficial effect on the upbringing of the younger generation. Children participating in the volunteer movement have an active citizenship.
