Warden syndrome is a behavior that is expressed in the desire of a person in a low position to assert himself, to compensate for some of his personal problems, by giving his social role special importance.
That is, such people, especially for small clerks, are ready to force you to collect the necessary and unnecessary pieces of paper just to establish themselves in your own eyes. They like to process the received certificates later. How do they just not have tunnel syndrome?
Who are they?
A real watchman will always require an identity document or a pass somewhere. This applies even to those cases when he sees you every day for many years. These are the people! With all this, this behavior does not apply to his friends and acquaintances, they can do almost anything they want.
Allocate a subspecies. These are people who love to convict of something around. The main goal of their life is to constantly complain about someone, so that the authorities would not think anything bad about them.
There is also a queue syndrome, also a subspecies of the syndrome in question. This applies to people who grew up in villages or under the USSR. It was then that the concept of "queue" was relevant and very common. Such people will do everything to ensure that the necessary bureaucratic minimum is only fulfilled (collecting a huge number of references, etc.).
To some extent, the prisoner syndrome can occur even in schoolchildren. This applies to those on duty.
People with this syndrome most often love their work, or rather its absence. For them, the main goal in life is to imitate violent activity, to show how irreplaceable they are, when perhaps they have nothing to do at all. All this is done so that it would not occur to anyone to somehow distract or disturb such a person. At all that you ask, they will let you know that it is hardly possible to do the necessary. And if possible, then such a person will exert his efforts, but he does not want to do this at all.
Most likely, each of us in our life has met such “watchmen”. Usually they work in low police ranks, cloakrooms, watchmen, waiters, in the registries of hospitals, security guards, petty officials, etc.
The watchman’s syndrome has one rather close concept of administrative delight. This is the name of the state of consciousness that is characteristic of people who, on duty, have administrative powers.
These people are able to bring almost anyone to hysteria. This can be compared with such a concept as “crash syndrome” - a pathological condition of a person that occurs after crushing tissues of the limbs until toxic substances are absorbed into them.
How to behave with such a person?
Practice has shown that when dealing with an individual suffering from a prisoner syndrome, it is very important to try not to attach any importance to his behavior. That is, in no case do not get annoyed and behave calmly. Believe me, your experiences are only at hand.
When you show ordinary politeness to a person with a prisoner’s syndrome, you use expressions like “sorry for disturbing”, “I can ask you” or “could you”, he perceives all this as your weakness. A signal appears in his brain that you can exercise maximum power in relation to you.
Going to the front door you need to clearly articulate the purpose of your visit, something like: "I have come to that, I have an appointment with him." Believe me, such a concrete designation of yourself will give him much less room for maneuver.
Be aware that the weakest point of a person suffering from a disorder such as prisoner syndrome is the fear of taking responsibility for any decision. In order to moderate the ardor of the “janitor” a little, you can ask to be named, thereby hinting that there may be personal consequences.
