The pilot episodes of the Brazilian TV series “New Victim”, whose actors showed viewers of several countries police history, appeared on Russian screens on July 15, 1996. And from the very first episodes, all attention was focused on the action taking place there. After all, everything that could be seen in each of the 140 episodes seemed very simple and understandable (well, maybe, with the exception of the love affairs of the heroes). But there was still something incomprehensible, a leading beginning from a distant past.
Events in the series
The whole story that viewers will learn over time takes place in Sao Paulo. It was 1995. Quite unexpectedly, the killings of people belonging to high society begin. Rainy morning A fatal phone call rings in the office of one of the offices in the business district of the city. The phone picks up Paulo Soares. He talked for a moment, he very quickly leaves his workplace. He takes the elevator. It is noticeable that Soares is worried and in a hurry. He goes down and goes outside, where he immediately tries to catch a car. But the suddenly appeared black car knocks him to death. With this begins a terrifying series of murders that occur according to the mysterious Chinese horoscope.
At first, the audience gets the impression that there is no connection between the victims. But it turns out that they are all united by one secret, which is associated with a certain event that occurred many years ago. After all, all the victims were once accomplices in one crime. A tangled ball of intricate events is trying to unravel the daughter of one of the victims - Irene.
Story lines
For its time, the plot of the sensational Brazilian series “New Victim”, whose actors were selected very carefully, was quite innovative and unusual. In it, besides the standard melodrama, there is also a serious detective line, which strongly resembles the one described by Agatha Christie in Ten Negroes. Here, too, there is a list of all future victims. Only they, unlike Christie’s poem, are a list of animals of the Chinese horoscope.
The authors of the telenovela brought here a lot of sore topics in society: in the series you can see adultery; love arising between people who are very young and come to the middle of their life paths; the problems of prostitution, drug addiction, homosexuality and others did not pass by.
The secret is revealed
As is usually the case with all the rules of the detective genre, the solution to everything that happens on the screen becomes known to the viewer only at the end. The only place where there may be different endings of the same story is omnipotent television. There is no doubt that the detective lovers liked the series "New Victim". The actors were so convincing that everything that appeared on the screen seemed to be true. The reality was as follows. The original Brazilian version of 1995 presents the audience with one killer. But in the “export” version of the telenovela, a completely different person is the killer.
And the change in ending happened here. Many television companies have expressed a strong desire to buy this series. They liked everything except its ending. The opinion was expressed that the solution was unconvincing. It turned out that the authors of the series also do not really perceive the final, which was shown in Brazil. So the series “New Victim” was slightly changed. Actors played this story a little bit. Therefore, some concessions were made: exclusively for the European audience, the final series was filmed again. And in this scenario, the killer turned out to be a completely different person.
TV show competition
When ORT launched one of the most famous Brazilian television shows, the film almost instantly received the highest rating. The Moscow newspaper decided to organize a competition for events in the series. The conditions were quite simple: the audience had to guess who would be the next victim on the list. At that time there was still no Internet in every home; the book, which was written by telenovela, also has not yet been published. People really tried to understand who was next. Everyone tried to win, because the main prize was very mesmerizing: a trip to Brazil. Indeed, the series “New Victim” was very interesting. The actors and the roles they played in this telenovela became famous in the families of Russians.
In February 1997, fans of the series screened the latest series. A few years later (2002-2004), a huge number of television companies in the Russian regions will repeat it again.
Actors and characters
Without exception, all the heroes of the novel are, by the will of fate, involved in the intricacies of cruel intrigues. And the audience has only an attempt to sort out all the suspects in order to discover the deeply hidden truth.
The Feretto sisters are very powerful. They live in hatred for each other. But when an enemy appears in their path that can destroy the honor and strength of the family, they unite.
The oldest sister - Felomenu - was played by actress Arasi Balabanyan, who received a prize for the best female role after the release of the series. Felomena, with the help of her sister Francesca's husband (Teresa Rachel), Marcelo (Jose Wilker, whom the Russian audience was already familiar with) runs a meat factory. This is their family business. And Marcelo has been living a double life for many years. For 20 years he has been dating a simple, kind woman, Ana Carvalho (Susana Vieira), who bore him three wonderful children. She owns a small pizzeria, loves Marcelo very much and lives on the hopes that he will marry her. This is how the plot in the telenovela “The New Victim” suddenly turns. The actors tried to play so that no one had any doubt that everything that was happening on the screen was a cruel reality.
But Marcelo has completely different plans, because if he divorces Francesca, he will leave the family without a livelihood. In addition, he has a young lover, Isabella, the daughter of the youngest of the sisters - Carmela. Even when his wife dies, Marcelo is not going to marry Ana.
The detective series "The New Victim" is unusual. The actors and their roles in this telenovela were interesting and memorable to the audience. No matter how often they appear on the screen.
It was Claudia Oana (Isabella Ferreto) who had the most prominent role here, because her heroine participated in the most emotional scenes in the series: she was thrown off the stairs and even cut her face with a knife.
All the characters of the novel “New Victim” are involved in a thin web of intrigue and crime, and the audience can only sort out the suspects in an attempt to get to the truth. This was the series “New Victim”. The actors and the roles they played still delight their fans. And this is not surprising.
