Polyoxidonium: instructions for use and description of the drug

The drug Polyoxidonium refers to immunomodulators, a drug is available in the form of tablets, rectal and vaginal suppositories and powder for the preparation of solutions for injection in bottles and ampoules.

Drug properties

The immune system is one of the most important in the body. Immunity helps a person cope with infections, protects against adverse factors, both internal and external environment. But it often happens that protective functions are reduced due to poor ecology and a number of other reasons. It becomes difficult for the body to resist various pathogenic factors. There is a group of immunomodulating drugs that are able to support the immune system, normalize its function. Polyoxionium, developed by Russian scientists, also belongs to such tools.

In addition, Polyoxidonium, the instruction reports about this, is a complex action drug. He is able not only to restore the immune status if necessary , but also to bind and remove toxins from the body. Its success is due to its effectiveness in many diseases associated with immune disorders, including chronic infectious and inflammatory processes of various localization and etiology.

The combination of antioxidant, detoxifying, immunomodulating properties allows you to successfully use the tool in diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, tuberculosis, pancreatic necrosis, and even in malignant neoplasms.

Act

Polyoxidonium is a high molecular weight linear polymer having many active groups on its surface. The tool increases resistance to viral, fungal and bacterial agents, effective in generalized infections. The basis of its mechanism of action is the activation of antibody formation and phagocytosis. The drug has an immunocorrective effect, promotes the production of cytokines, affects natural killers and phagocytic cells.

Polyoxidonium, an instruction to which describes in detail the mechanisms of the drug’s effects, restores the body’s immune responses, including secondary immunodeficiencies, as the cells age, due to ionizing radiation, after steroid and cytostatic therapy. It is used for severe infections, after surgical interventions, for malignant tumors, burn lesions.

Application

In outpatient practice, Polyoxidonium tablets are more often prescribed, instructions for use are attached to them. With sublingual administration (resorption in the mouth), the drug promotes the activation of lymphoid cells located in the Eustachian tubes, nasal cavity, bronchi, and as a result, the resistance of these organs to infections increases. When taken orally (orally) in tablets, the drug increases the activity of lymphoid cells located in the intestine (B cells produce Ig A), which increases the resistance of the digestive tract and respiratory system to infectious agents. The drug Polyoxidonium, in addition, activates tissue macrophages, which contributes to a more rapid elimination of pathogens from the body.

The use of the drug, including in the form of suppositories, can significantly increase the effectiveness of treatment, reduce the dose of antibacterial agents, hormones and bronchodilators. In the complex treatment of Polyoxidonium, the instruction prescribes for use with:

  • recurrent chronic diseases that are difficult to treat at any stage;
  • bacterial and viral infections, both acute and chronic;
  • leukoplakia, dysplasia, cervical ectopy, lesions caused by papilloma virus, colpitis, endometritis, prostatitis, as well as pyelonephritis, cystitis and urethritis;
  • tuberculosis (in its various forms);
  • allergic diseases (atopic dermatitis, asthma, hay fever), complicated by bacterial or viral infections;
  • rheumatoid arthritis, including complicated ARI, ARVI;
  • trophic ulcers, burns, fractures to activate regenerative processes;
  • consequences of radiation and chemotherapy;
  • to reduce hepato- and nephrotoxic side effects of drugs.

As monotherapy, the drug is used to prevent acute respiratory infections and influenza, as well as exacerbations of chronic infectious diseases, to correct immunodeficiencies (secondary) as a result of aging or the action of any adverse factors.

Contraindications

Polyoxidonium, instruction focuses on this, is contraindicated in case of intolerance to its components and during pregnancy (due to the lack of clinical studies). Side effects of the drug include allergic reactions in the form of angioedema, itching, urticaria, which occur rarely. Doses and treatment regimens are individually selected by the doctor.
