History of the Ossetian Theater
Before talking about our main topic, which is dedicated to the North Ossetian theater, it is worth saying that at the beginning of the last century, in principle, there was no professional national theater in Ossetia. But instead, there was the Russian Theater, which at that time already had sufficient experience.
Before the revolution, the Russian Theater managed to stage several Gorky plays. In 1902, a staging of the novel "Thomas Gordeev" was staged. In the winter of the same year, the premiere of the play "Petty Bourgeois" took place. In 1907-1909, the active director and actor P. Medvedev staged such performances as The Brothers Karamazov, Thunderstorm, etc.
Why do we pay so much attention to the Russian Drama Theater? The fact is that it was he who trained and educated the Ossetian audience. That is why a drama theater emerged from the bowels of the Russian Theater, to which the article will be devoted. The actors and directors of the Russian Theater (D. Koroev, E. Britaev, B. Totrov, etc.) visited the idea of creating a drama theater.
In the 20-30s of the last century, theatrical art began to develop rapidly in North Ossetia, but the main role still belonged to the Russian Theater. Around the same time, M. Bulgakov worked in Vladikavkaz, creating "Turbin Days".
Theater Creation
In 1931, to the leadership of the State Institute of Theater Arts. Lunacharsky contacted the authorities of North Ossetia. They asked to accept several young people to the educational institution. In the summer of 1935, when young people graduated from an educational institution, they formed a troupe of the Ossetian national theater. The North Ossetian Theater was created in the fall of 1935. This event was very bright, since the discoveries waited a long time. The theater opened with a performance by A. Korneichuk “Plato Krechet”. From 1936 to 1941, only 36 plays were staged on the stage, of which 16 belonged to the Ossetian authors.
After the war
The war made adjustments to the activities of the North Ossetian Drama Theater. In the post-war period, many plays were devoted to the hardships and delights of rural life. However, artists were most attracted to classical productions. Most of all, the audience loved “King Lear” by W. Shakespeare, “Gypsy” by A. Pushkin, “Without Guilty Guilty” by A. Ostrovsky. When the theater turned 5 years old, the performance “Othello” was staged. It was repeated for a long time on the stage of the North Ossetian Theater, as it became one of the favorites for the audience. Moreover, the inimitable V. Tkhapsaev, who won the love and recognition of the audience, was the leading role.
Actors of the Ossetian Theater
The theater quickly became a favorite place for leisure activities among Ossetians. The theatrical performances of actors (Plato Krechet, Liar, Flying Doctor, Lawyer Patlen) were received with great enthusiasm by the audience. Gradually, the theater entered the life of Ossetians. In many ways, the very first actors of the theater contributed to this, who glorified it in the world: S. Tautiev, B. Borukaev, V. Tsirikhov, V. Ballaev, I. Kokaev, V. Makiev and others. All these names of Ossetians are still remembered and honored since it was these people who wrote the history of the theater. The first actors of the theater created him fame, which still exists. It is to them that the theater owes such attention to the public.
We can say that the cultural institution flourished thanks to the graduates of the Ossetian branch of GITIS. But in parallel with this, a new galaxy of talented artists was ripening, who had to glorify their favorite theater even more. We are talking about the pupils of the Russian Theater (Vladikavkaz) V. Tkhapsaev and V. Karginova. As we already know, V. Tkhapsaev won the love of the public with the role of Othello. But that was only the beginning of his career. After that, he played in hundreds of performances and in each of them was inimitable. However, he entered the list of the best performers of the roles of the Shakespearean repertoire around the world! Critics of those times wrote in newspapers that, observing how V. Tkhapsaev plays, you understand that this is exactly how the hero himself was seen by W. Shakespeare, that was exactly what the hero really was. The activities of this outstanding actor received the highest marks not only in Russia but throughout the world. In the fall of 1960, V. Tkhapsaev (Balo) was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR. Together with him, M. Tsalikov, V. Ballaev, T. Karyaeva, E. Tumenova received such an award.
40-50s
The named period became very bright for the North Ossetian Opera and Ballet Theater. At this time, people like K. Slanov, V. Khugaev, Z. Kochisova, N. Salamov worked here. The theater in the musical sphere was actively developing. Performances based on the works of Russian and world classics are increasingly being staged: “Carmen” by J. Bizet, “Tosca” by D. Verdi, “Demon” by A. Rubinstein.
To date, the North Ossetian Drama Theater is still in demand. He is loved by spectators and tourists. The theater itself still takes a leading place in the dramatic culture of the republic.
Modernity
In 1993, the North Ossetian Theater received the title of Academic. He was also named after the famous and talented actor V. Tkhapsaev. The leadership of this theater remains, thanks to the fact that old actors are replaced by new, no less bright and talented ones. In 2000, the play "Bitter Rhymes" was staged. She was dedicated to the life and work of Kosta Khetagurov.
In the past 10 years, the North Ossetian Theater has encountered some problems. The main one is the lack of a professional national play that meets the needs of our time. The desire of the theater to preserve its cultural identity leads to the fact that obsolete, archaic plays are shown that no longer cause vivid emotions in the viewer. This trend slowed down the development of the theater a bit, did not allow him to keep up with the times. This problem was discussed at the I and II festival of national theaters of the North Caucasus under the name "Scene without Borders". They were held in Vladikavkaz in 2000 and 2002. Representatives of all theaters of the North Caucasus became participants in the festivals. This event showed community, friendship and need for each other. The main thing that the participants brought out of this event is that it is necessary to enrich themselves with cultural ties, and not concentrate around just one thing. The forum contributed to the strengthening of the artistic theater and stage life of Russia and the preservation of stability in the Caucasus.
The main artists of the theater today do a lot to give him a second wind. The main artist is A. Kubalov, and the production designer is E. Verges. The staff is small, but they are all active and talented people who make every effort to return the North Ossetian Theater to its former glory.
