Playing the guitar is a common hobby. And it doesn’t matter if someone has achieved great success in performing complex compositions or not. In any case, a guitarist who can even perform simple popular songs based on 5 or fewer chords becomes the soul of the campaign.
What are chords?
Despite the apparent simplicity in the performance of simple compositions on a six-string guitar, this instrument in the hands of a virtuoso is able to charm any admirer of guitar music. It can even play very complex plays. And this consists in understanding the process of extracting sounds from an instrument, which in aggregate are music.
As you know, there are only seven notes that form the main scale, and all other sounds are derived from them. Chords, in essence, are the simultaneous sounding of 3 or more notes located at different musical distances from each other. Chords get their name by the note at the very bottom of the musical note or by the main note. Chords are indicated in Latin letters. For example, take the gm chord on the guitar - “G minor”. It is denoted by the letter G with m added to it. What are the chords?
In the tutorials you can find more than eight hundred chords, as well as a detailed description of how to work with them. A simple chord is worthy of comparison with the color for the melody. In melody, this harmony plays the same role as color in painting. Advanced guitarists will say that there are more than 14 types of chords, or even more. However, in this material we are talking about the simplest chords, the possession of which will allow beginners to perform simple songs literally after a week of classes.
As already mentioned, chords create harmony or disharmony, affect a person’s feelings and are divided into minor and major ones according to their structure. Minor sound causes sad associations. It creates an atmosphere of melancholy, regret and even pity. Major harmonies, on the contrary, cause vivacity, joy and call for action. With the seemingly impossibility of holding the strings with one left hand so that the sounds we need are heard, it is quite possible to do this using such a technique as a bar - holding all the strings on one fret with your index finger. Of course, training is needed, but even with little experience playing the guitar chord gm (Gm or G minor) is performed without problems. So, holding the third finger with the first finger, then we press the strings D and A to the fretboard in the fifth fret with the third and fourth fingers.
