Protopic - a cream that, judging by the reviews of consumers, is a rather effective means that practically does not cause side effects. The medication is included in the category of local anti-inflammatory drugs. Protopic - ointment of a white (slightly yellowish) color, homogeneous consistency. The active component is tacrolimus monohydrate.

Protopic instructions recommend the use in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Children from two to sixteen years of age are prescribed a dosage of 0.03%, adults - from 0.03% to 0.1%. The drug is used for atopic dermatitis in severe and moderate forms with resistance (resistance) of the pathology to other drugs for external use or the presence of contraindications to them.

Protopic instructions do not recommend to appoint during pregnancy, intolerance to macrolides and components of the drug, lactation.

A medication should not be prescribed to patients with disorders in the epidermal barrier of a genetic nature (Netherton syndrome), generalized erythroderma (due to the high risk of a progressive increase in systemic absorption of the active component - tacrolimus).

With caution, the drug is used in patients with decompensated liver failure, lesions of the skin of large areas, especially for a long time, in children.

For patients over two years of age, Protopic instructions recommend applying a thin layer to the affected areas of the cover.

Children from two to sixteen years of age are prescribed a two-time use of 0.03% of the drug per day. The duration of therapy should not be more than twenty-one days. Subsequently, the frequency of use of the drug is reduced to once a day. Therapy with Protopic is recommended by the instruction to continue until the lesion is completely eliminated.

The drug can be used for periodic therapeutic courses or for a short time. As practice shows, improvements in the skin are noted after the first week of use. In the absence of therapeutic efficacy for fourteen days from the start of the use of the drug, it is necessary to review the treatment tactics, considering other options for the impact on the lesion.

If signs of an exacerbation of the pathology appear, consult a doctor. In such cases, it is usually necessary to resume treatment.

Most often, after using protopic on the skin (at the site of application), signs of irritation appear (redness, itching, burning, rash, pain). As practice shows, these adverse reactions are mild and resolve after the initiation of therapy for a week.

Often patients note intolerance to alcohol during treatment. It manifests as redness on the face, irritation after drinking alcohol-containing drinks.

The use of protopic can increase the risk of herpes infection, acne, folliculitis.

When used topically, cases of overdose in clinical practice are not described.

Ingestion of the ointment involves the adoption of generally accepted measures, including ensuring control over vital functions in the body. Gastric lavage or inducing artificial vomiting is not recommended.

The drug should not be used in patients with acquired or congenital immunodeficiencies and in patients taking immunosuppressive drugs. It is contraindicated to apply the ointment to the affected areas, considered as precancerous or potentially malignant.

When using the drug, occlusive dressings are not recommended , you should also not wear tight clothes that do not allow air to pass.

In case of detecting signs of infection, appropriate treatment should be carried out before the appointment of protopic.
