Description of the drug
“Transparent liquid without color and impurities with a specific aroma” - this is the definition of the drug “Corvalol” (from which this drug is used, discussed below). The composition of the drug is a combination of the main active ingredients:
- Ethyl ether from valerian. Thanks to this ingredient, the drug has antispasmodic and soothing properties. More precisely, the essential oil of α-bromovaleric acid and its derivatives are used here.
- Peppermint oil extract. This component contains menthol, which is known as a cure for spasms in the blood vessels of the heart.
- Phenobarbital is also part of the drug Corvalol. From what this component helps, one can judge from such information. This substance is included in the group of barbiturates - substances that have a depressing effect on the entire system of nerve endings. Phenobarbital sodium is used as part of the drug; this agent has anticonvulsant and sedative properties.
- Excipients (purified water, sodium hydroxide and ethyl alcohol).
Application and dosage
The drug "Corvalol" (the composition of which is discussed above) is prescribed for such diseases:
- neurosis and increased irritability;
- disturbances in the activity of the autonomic system;
- intestinal cramps;
- insomnia;
- tachycardia;
- functional disorders in the circulatory system and heart.
The dosage of this medication is prescribed individually for each case, depending on the degree and type of disease. As a rule, for adults, the number of drops from 15 to 30 can be used, for children from 3 to 15. This volume of the drug is recommended to be used 3 times a day before meals. If necessary, a single dose can be brought up to 50 drops, for example, with severe tachycardia.
In pharmacies you can also find the drug "Corvalol" in tablets. The use of this drug is similar to the drug in drops, since it contains the same components. The dosage for adults is a maximum of 6 tablets per day. This mode of application is recommended: 2 times in 2 pieces.
Additional Information
There are cases when the use of this drug is prohibited. It can be in such situations:
- with a strong sensitivity of the patient's body to one or another component of the drug;
- with functional disorders of organs such as the liver or kidneys;
- during pregnancy and during lactation;
- with a lack of lactase in the body, etc.
There is a danger of getting used to a drug such as Corvalol. What does this come from, or rather, because of what? The effect of "addiction" can be explained by the fact that phenobarbital, which is part of this drug, has a narcotic effect. In addition, when using this medication, various side effects can occur, for example, drowsiness, decreased concentration, dizziness, allergic reactions, and so on.
