"Indomethacin Sofarma" is a drug of the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Its use has local analgesic, anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties. It is also an antipyretic drug and has a slight antiplatelet effect.
The mechanism of its action is to inhibit the formation of pro-inflammatory factors that contribute to temperature rise, maintaining the exudative and proliferative stages of inflammatory processes. This is achieved by inhibiting cyclooxygenase 1 and 2, as a result of which the synthesis of prostaglandins from arachidonic acid is disrupted.
Thus, "Indomethacin Sofarma" in the form of an ointment eliminates pain, reduces swelling and erythema, thereby reducing swelling in the joints and increases the range of motion in them.
This drug is used systemically for pain in the spine, rheumatism, articular syndrome (rheumatoid arthritis, ostearthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis), neuralgia, dysmenorrhea, diffuse diseases of the connective tissue, myalgia, traumatic inflammation of the joints and soft tissues). In infectious diseases such as adnexitis, cystitis, prostatitis, it is used as an adjuvant. The topical drug Indomethacin Sofarma is used to prevent inflammatory processes during surgical interventions on the cataract and anterior segment of the eye, and is also necessary for the inhibition of myosis intraoperatively.
Outwardly, the medicine is also used for neuralgia, myalgia, traumatic inflammation of the joints and soft tissues, for pain in the spine, as well as for joint syndrome.
However, if available
- individual hypersensitivity to it or to another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug,
- ulcers of the stomach or intestines in the acute stage,
- pregnancy and lactation,
- hemopoiesis,
- Severe impaired liver or kidney
- severe forms of chronic heart failure,
- pancreatitis,
- as well as children under 14 years of age, its use is contraindicated!
Redness, itching, and a rash at the site of application are side effects that occur if you use Indomethacin Sofarma.
The ointment instruction recommends rubbing a very thin layer into the skin, namely at the site of the projection of pain, about 2-3 times a day. On a day for adults, the total amount of ointment used should not be more than 15 cm, and for children over 14 years old - up to 7.5 cm.
The appearance of symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, disorientation, memory impairment, severe headache indicates an overdose. In more severe cases, convulsions, numbness of the extremities and paresthesia may appear. In this case, symptomatic therapy is necessary. Hemodialysis in this condition is ineffective. It should be noted that the drug "Indomethacin Sofarma" (ointment) is practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation. This leads to a low frequency of occurrence and overdose, and side effects of a systemic nature (for example, such a severe allergic reaction to this drug, such as anaphylactic shock).
In addition, the ointment should not be applied to the damaged surface of the skin, to wounds. This can lead to systemic side effects. It is also necessary to avoid getting Indomethacin ointment on the mucous membranes or in the eyes.
Before using this drug, be sure to consult a specialist. You may not need to use this group of drugs at all, or you need a dose adjustment. This will help you save your time and health!
